Patrick Johnson loses appeal

Johnson, Saville lose Oly omission case
April 3, 2008 - 4:33PM

Sprinter Patrick Johnson and walker Natalie Saville have lost their appeals against omission from the Australian Olympic track and field team.

Johnson, the Australian 100m record holder, appealed his omission from the 100m and 200m for the Beijing Games.

Saville - the younger sister of multiple Commonwealth Games champion Jane Saville - contested her exclusion from the women’s 20km walk.

An Athletics Australia independent tribunal turned down both appeals.

AA named a preliminary 25-man squad for the Beijing Games in early March following the national trials in Brisbane.

AA can still add other athletes to the Olympic team until the final cut-off on June 23.

Johnson and Saville now have the option of taking their cases to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) or they can appeal again to AA after June 23.

that’s a shame.

I really hope that at least one aussie sprinter can find some form before the cut-off and make the team…

Appeal!? Get over it man… How about channelling that energy into getting the qualifying time so that you’re in the team without any doubts or questions. If he had run the standard and still wasn’t picked then I could understand…but he hasn’t regardless of injury or loss of form.

Johnson stated on radio that he intended to take further action at CAS.

I believe his appeal was not regarding non-selection but to gain the chance to be selected. BTW he has run the standard …

no-one seems to be dealing with the fact that the 100m trials final was a shambles that should have been recalled or re-run.

Yeah it was a shambles, but that was because PJ was hearing things (second gun??). He lost 8 metres on the field because of it, but the fact remains that you’ve gotta run UNTIL you hear the second gun, right?

I am tipping AA are going to be taken to court post Olympics. I can’t name any specific incidences or names. They have been heavy handedly bullying athletes for over the last decade. Justice will eventually be served.
