Week-11 Sunday
Workout: 8 miles easy/hilly
Today was tough on my body. I didn’t have tape for my foot, so I ran on it even though I had some slight pain. Only, I favored my right foot, so I overloaded my left leg and the left knee was smarting by the end of my run. Ice+asprin and my knee was fine by morning.

I didn’t get my paws on any sports tape today, and I left my shoes at home, and it was raining, and i was really tired, and I wanted to play video games when I got home, and I’m white, but I did my workout anyway

Week-11 Tuesday
Workout: 2 mile w/u, agilities, 100m Time trial, 3x30m sticks.
12.04h not a bad 100m, considering it was on a gravel track. I’m on the 4x100… Our team is lacking in the sprints, and it’s lookin’ like i’ll be picking up some slack. I am running anchor leg because i am extremely uncoordinated and they didn’t want to risk a stick-drop. HOwever, I follow orders pretty well. “STICk!” And I take the stick. In addition to a 4x100m, tommorrow I"m running the 3200m I am hoping to do well in both.

Week-11 Wednesday: Aptos/North Salinas/North County Scrimmage
4x100: Our starter is out of shape. His exchange was decent, but the second leg had huge ground to make up and he did a damn good job with the ground he did make up. The second exchange was uglier than anything I’ve ever seen in my life. Our third leg would’ve been damn good, if he hadn’t a taken off too soon. My exchange was fine, and I brought us home with a solid leg. Didn’t gain too much ground but didn’t loose any at all.
3200: Started out in 5th place, behind a few of our runners and one of theirs. I chilled in the back. Then as the race progressed I moved up into 3rd, and tried (for a short while) to hang with the leaders, when they started to pull away I didn’t try and react, I felt as if I was going pretty quick. I could’ve kept up with them, in retrospect. During lap 7, I experienced a mondo cramp, from pelvis to armpit all of the muscles on my right flank locked up. I kicked it home out of sheer force of will. It was hard to ignore the cramp. 10:39 (Pr 10:26)

I’ve been postponing my posts because I haven’t been able to remember the workouts I did on thursday/friday. Needless to say, I did some stick work for the relays I ran in this last saturday.
3/4/06
Week-11 Saturday: Mt. Pleasant Relays
4x1600, 4x400
5th in the 4x1600, I ran a 4:51 split. I got distracted mid race… I’d go into more details but it’s a bit embarrasing.
5th in the 4x400, I ran 3rd leg, 52.9 split. Which is a pretty decent relay leg, considering I have done almost ZERO speed work.

Week-12 Monday
Workout: 4x300+100@800rp, 5 miles easy
43, 43, 44, 47
The main part of the workout was the 300’s, but I was supposed to do six. My calves cramped at the begining of the fourth. I had to stop and stretch, but I jumped into the fifth and ran it (on my heels). I went very fast, though. At the end of the third rep I was gettin a bit willowy (I like that term).

Yesterday, most of the distance camp did 4-8-12-16-12-8-4. However, as monday I did a hard workout with the other speedsters, I did a condensed version so I wouldn’t be dead for tommorrows’ workout. Then I went for a few easy miles

Good workout today. On the track were some gale force winds, though! Hot danm! We did our 300’s around two turns b/c of the extreme wind. This workout, though, was a very hard workout to complete at pace and fast. The recovery for me was tough, and the pace was tough on our pot-holed, windy-assed track. My foot has become addicted to the tape job from Idaho, it’s hard to run without it.

Week-12 Saturday: Bellermine Invitational
4x100, we had clean sticks. Poor time, but clean sticks.
800: 2:07… I just checked the results now. Oh my fucking god. I cringed just now, 10 seconds before I wrote these exact words I physically flinched after reading that time. I knew I’d given up. I knew after the first 100m, when I was boxed in. Then after I tried to salvage my box on the home stretch by moving up, but I didn’t follow through. Why god, why did I give up? The hunger. That little petty hunger you get when someone beats you to the lunch line, or when you misspell a word and someone else points it out. That used to be a beast in me, but now it’s a kitten. A hungry, stray, little kitten. Fk This. I let my XC season “slip”. Fk That. I can’t let track slip.
There is nothing more in the world I love more than that godanm red oval. Except one thing. There’s one thing I love more than the feel of rubber under me. It’s struggling to stand up after a brutal kick. That little godanm wobbly circle in my vision. Telling people to bugger off when they tell me “get up, get up you have to walk after your race.”
I could never turn in a single piece of homework in my entire life. I could tell each teacher lies for the rest of my life and pray that i can get by with a D—, and that wouldn’t match 1/100th of the disgust I taste when I finish an endurance event and I can still stand. Even worse than all this anger/hatred/disgust? Is that I’m f**king detached from it all. I can sit here and write about my anguish, and all I feel is a little kitten mewling inside my head. When the gun goes off I’m a godanm kitten. Where is that little 9th grader who ran in a pair of loaned XC trainers? That sophomore who went out in 55 seconds? Who…what am I?
I’m starting small, and working up. All of my intervals I’m kicking it in.

Is it possible that you’re overtrained? That will kill your desire and mental state.
Thank you Juggler, your sentiment is heartfelt, but I don’t think that I’ve overtrained at all. My training has been going rather nicely, actually. Speaking of which.

Week-13 Monday
Workout: 3x5 Bench, 3x5 Squat, 10 miles easy/hilly.
125-125-125, 210-210-210
The lifts were SURPRISINGLY easy! I was more sore than I was after lifting similarly in the winter, but I was able to move the weight with surprising ease. The run was tough, though. My quads in particular where very sore. Which wouldn’t have been a problem if my run was in Monterey… in the artichoke fields. Only my run wasn’t on the fields. It was in the hilly back-trails of my mom’s house. Ouch! The good ol’ XC queue’s where comin’ to mind. “Pump the arms, the legs will folllow” “Don’t slouch up hills” “Look both ways before taking a poop on the trail”

You’re doing a lot of anaerobic volume and racing a lot, so don’t be too hard on yourself. As for the mental aspect of not giving it your all, it sucks for now, but I bet you won’t do it again.
3/14/06
Week-13 Tuesday
Workout: 3 miles easy, 7x400m hill climbs, 3 miles easy.
You know how yesterday I was sore. Like hamburger-for-legs sore? Well I talk to coach, and I find out that we’re doing hill repeats today. Not fast short ones long paced ones. I jogged out there and pretty much did 3 miles of high-knees and butt-kicks. My quads hurt I tried to loosen them up. I jogged up the hill the first one. The whole team did. After that we went up the hill at 1600m effort. And god did that ever hurt. First off, I had to pee. Like i’ve never had to pee in a workout. Also all of my uber-hill-toughened muscles were B-T-S (think Rhythm+POS), so I was not “fresh” at all. I didn’t have socks, so I was gouging holes on the top of my left foot. But of course as you all can easily tell by my lack of derogatory cuss-words, I had a damn good workout. I pushed the end of every single interval.
I was fatigued and “felt” like crap, but my “Well” was full. When I pushed I was able to dig deep and get a bit more. Only… on the 7th time up that hill, I kind of hit “the wall” Ouchers? Ouchers… Yes Ouchers. The hill itself has a bit of a lessening of grade about 1/2 way up, and then it gets steeper than the beginning that is usually where I went into my high gear, pumping arms and focusing hard. When I hit the second steep grade on my 7th interval I started stumbling, slowing down a lot, and couldn’t keep my head straight, which hasn’t happened to me since Sophomore year. yahy for hills! I tried to kick it 3 times, and 3 times the hippo “girdy” whomped on me. She followed me all the way from the second turn of our track to a hill 3 miles away. Go figure. That bitch’s athletic.

Workout: 10min jog, agilities, 4x600 (200/200/200) 3x300 (100/100/100) 200, 1mile cooldown.
This was an oucher of a workout. It’s hard to run quick when my legs are shot, but I ran damn hard. The first few 600’s were tougher n’ hell. The 300’s where a breeze. The 200? ouch! We went all out on the 200, and it hurt like a monkey.
The cooldown I had to jog carefully on flat surfaces to ensure that I didn’t cramp up.

Workout: 10min, agilites, 3x5:00/3:00 Tempo runs. The first one I did at about 5:40 pace, then I went maybe 5:30 pace. The last one was 5:15 pace. Good workout. Pretty tough too. The first one I started with the distance guys and fell back a slight bit come the end. The second one I started again hard, and fell back. The third time, I chilled the first 2:30/3:00 then blitzed the last 2:00 I had huge momentum and my kick was brutal. I passed all but Ivan.
