Recently I have had to make frequent visit to my chiropractor (probably about 1x a week) because of a locked SI joint. He suggested that my flat feet could be the cause of this, because instead of the arch absorbing all the shock it goes to your ankle/knees/hips etc. He told me to pick up orthotics from a local running store to see if that helped, which I did. While I was running, the orthotics made it feel like somebody was hitting the bottom of my feet with a hammer with each step. The next day I did a tempo session with the regular insoles instead of the orthotics and felt fine, but now (the next day) I am feeling pain in the front of my left knee below my kneecap, especially when going up/down steps. Can anyone offer me any insight here?
a couple questions- 1. how long did you walk around in the orthotics to get your feet/legs used to them? 2. have you had that up and down stairs ever before?
I would walk around for some time, a few days at least, before running in new orthotics. Also, I would talk to a therapist who really knows running and biomechanics- you may not need orthotics, or you may need something different than what you got. I’ve used off the shelf as well as casted custom orthotics and have never had the hammering pain you describe while using them.
Two points:
1- bad orthotics.
2- you must use orthotics progressively, you can’t use it just now and at high intensity or long distance training.
Try to start using them during your shopping (:))or rest days and only 1 training session for the 1th or 2nd week.
