I finally found a good reason for a sprinter to do Cross Country. There is a kid in my state who is two years older than me, but I have been competing against him in Junior Olympics and high school track for two years. Being one of the best in the state and two years older than me, he kicked my butt every single time. I am supercompetitive, and it had gotten to me. This year he ran XC instead of football, because their football team is horrible. He is a senior this year, and far too good for me to have a chance to beat him in track. When I saw that his XC times were barely better than mine, I saw my chance to beat him before he graduated. Today I ran with him the whole race, passed him in the last mile and he didn’t have enough kick to catch up. So I finally fufilled my goal of beating him in something during my high school career, and he knows it. The best thing to ever come out of Cross Country for me!
GOOD JOB.
It seems like more of a personal issue of fullfillment than a reason for xc being good for a sprinter. also lets see how this kid you beat does in track considering he ran xc instead of playing football.
How did you two place overall in the XC?
yes quickazhell, it was a very personal fufillment. personally, i think that if he lifts right, like i have been, XC won’t be too hard on him. he is a favorite to win state in the sprints this year. BTW, overall I got 15th with a time of 18:40. It was a fairly small meet, with only a couple really good athletes there. The winning time was 15:26, but 2nd was 17:22.
Don’t fulfill objectives that don’t matter. Your competitor didn’t do X-country when he was beating you- he was playing football. Now that he’s doing X-C, lets see if it goes as well for him!
Great that you beat him in XC, but how is XC good for a sprinter?
Ce n’est pas bon!
IMO XC can be good for a sprinter in the GPP, but I feel any XC’s after then and i think you may find that you’re doing the wrong kind of work as the training you do won’t gear you toward that kind of aerobic exertion. Though having said that, the last time I did a full XC season I went on to compete in the English Schools champs. So I guess it’s a case of what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another.
