What would it be like in sports today if the old Eastern bloc countries still had the funding for the sports schools and sports scientists working? Would sports training today be even more different?
Not much different, really.
Everyone is giving the Eastern European and Soviet sports machines a bit too much credit. The Soviet Union’s top sports scientists concluded in the late 50s/early 60s, after seeing Paul Anderson, that their athletes needed to squat more often and heavier, and everything has cascaded from there.
