Am I seriousely retarded or it si not in the shop section?
It’s not in the shop! You may still be mildly…
ops, found at derek’site…
Depends on the day and the condition of the muscles but prob 20 to 30 min- more likely 20 as the muscles get in better and better order as you count down the days.
Rupert… seriously, no posibility of making it a downloadable buy??? maybe in two files, and extending the download time period, especially for all of us not in the states, the shipping makes it “a little salty” cost-wise to say the least
Alex
(also, can you PM me, I have a question with regards for getting Charlie down to South America to teach a seminar, if interested.)
I think it would be helpful to see a “high load” week on paper so we can see exactly what you are tapering from. Also, does he always do tempo at 50% pace?
I imagine doing power O-Lifts only significantly reduces the eccentric stresses and tightness that may be attributed to traditional ‘powerlifting’ methods. What I’m trying to say is that, for me, the o-lift focused program and dirt slow tempo paint a different picture than what I envisioned as cfts.
I agree I would absolutely love to purchase the dvd but can’t afford the shipping as well.
We incorporate more Olympic lifts (cleans, snatches, push jerks) along with bench press and squatting. Although we eliminate our squatting through the bulk of the competitive season. The lifts off the floor compensate for the elimination of the squat.
The tempo pace in the video was reduced from our regular sessions, mainly because the field we were doing them on was pitted and pot-holed compared to what we usually run on (field turf field for tempo at home). So we were being careful.
I’ll post what we typically do pre-comp and what was done in the video.

I can make the shipping cheaper if people want to assume the risk of not being able to track it and we are not held liable for non-deliveries. I would just send it regular post.
That brings another question. What if the fields in your area are crap as above all year? Would you reduce the speed significantly or run tempo on the (15 year old petrified) track?
Prob reduce the speed of the tempo
This is a great video! Might be the best training video I own out of like 100
First, the footage of charlie and the tissue work is fantastic for newbies to massage.
Second, the slight tehcnique improvements made a tremendous difference in the guys sprints.
Third, it just was a great video from start to finish. If you havent yet, I highly recommend you get this and absorb all the info in it.
Charlie,Number 2 -Great DVD guys…very informative and interesting…more dvd’s of this standard would be great…
Charlie , some last few day taper questions: If the meet you’re tapering for is on a Saturday (day 0) would I be correct in thinking that (working backwards)…
Day 1 = travel (complete rest)
Day 2 = Speed
Day 3 = Tempo and UPPER body weights (just bench or others?)
Day 4 = Speed
Day 5 = Rest (complete)
Charlie would the distances ran on the speed days be the same as prescribed in CFTS?
Charlie/Number 2 -Did he do the 200 also? what did he end up running?
Thanks in advance…
Yes. There’s a taper schedule in CFTS.
No2 will have to answer about the 200 but that’s not what he was preparing for.
thanks Charlie…much appreciated.
I’ve found you just want a longer SE rep about 4 days out for rhythm - long enough to let them stay fresh but not so far that they can’t remember the last time they ran over 100m.
After the stimulus session the athletes are usually pretty tired (especially if you do the one from CFTS! - I cut out the 100m rep as 4 runs of that intensity are really hard!) so a shorter rep is usually all that can be done in the days after this session. So basically with 3 Hi sessions in the 10 days you are looking at
- short se rep
- long se rep
- block starts - maybe a longer one to work on transition before shutting it down.
Of course this is what the east germans were already doing. I think they were a clever bunch having thought the whole thing out and Charlie of course for realising what he was missing and adopting this scheme. This taper schedule give very consistent results, which is what I like most about it.
Hey TC are you saying only 3 speed workouts are done the last 10 days?
I use 3 with 2-3 days of complete rest - with more given at the the beginning of the 10 day taper than towards the end. It’s like that on the DVD but I think it’s 4 days of speed in the CFTS.
Remember that the taper can be done from meets as well as from a final 100% speed session and the type and number of speed sessions depends on individual factors, including training age, L-to-S or S-to-L, training phase (indoor? outdoor?) event emphasis (100 or 200), etc.
