New Coaching Job in the US

Hello Everyone!
My name is Coach Weiser and I recently accepted the Head Coaching position at Wayland Baptist University, a NAIA school in Plainview, TX (West Texas). We have a small yet highly talented track team and I am inviting any interested athletes with eligibility remaining to take a look at our school and Track & Field program. We recruit a wide spectrum of local, in-state, out-of-state and international athletes of any age and any event area. Currently our campus supports a little over 1000 students and Track & Field is one of the departments most successful and well supported programs. In fact, the more I learn about our team’s history the more honored I feel to be the team’s current Head Coach. I personally coach all events up to the 800 and all the field events. My assistant coaches the distance runners and helps me out with the sprinters on easy days. If you would like to explore Wayland as an option please call me at 806-291-1143 or email me at weisers@wbu.edu. It is a small Christ-centered institution that offers a good education without being extremely selective. If you cant get over a small, Christian school in a small West Texas town then you will not be happy here, but I think most will find us to be a little gold-mine. Thanks for your time.

Can you tell us a bit about who you have now and the events you’re looking for?

I’ve got several athletes here in San Antonio that you may have interest in. I’ll keep your contact information and have any who are interested call.

To give you an idea of what our team is comprised of. We have a combination of local West Texas, Junior College Transfers, and International student-athletes. We have 3 young gentlemen who have the ability to run 46 each and another short sprinter who has run 48. Last year the 4x4 ran 3:08. This years team has one new person, but I believe he is faster than the one he replaces. We only have 1 strong 100m guy (10.57) and many who run the 200 in 21-22. A bunch of them long jump, but we have no triple jumpers, pole vaulters, high jumpers and one hurdler. We have a lot of talent, but injuries it seems kept them back. I hope to rectify that.

The womens team looks pretty much the same , but with less depth. We have a Bahaman who was (2 years ago) an outstanding 100m/long jumper, but since coming to the US and pulling a hamstring at the 01 World Youth she hasnt been the same. We lack even more on the womens side.

However, things could change by next semester and again next year with people coming in and going elsewhere. I hope to rectify that as well and bring some stability to the team. We have a burgeoning foreign admissions initiative so we are friendly to that, but we are a 4 year institution and not a junior college or a stopping station for those hoping to move on to Division I. We are probably the cheapest private school in the country and definitely the cheapest Christian college in the US. Our program is taken care of very well by the University and the Track & Field program has one the most distinguished tradition of success of any other part of our campus.

Basically we should have very good relays this year and be thick in the 200 and 400 but very thin in the jumps and short sprints and hurdles. We are opening the doors to anyone who wants to compete at the collegiate leve and is willing to work hard. I believe in much the same things as what is discussed on this forum so it would not be foreign or a hap-hazard system of training.

If you have eligibility and are interested please visit our web-site at wbu.edu and check us out or email me at weisers@wbu.edu.
