Prague - Morne Nagel, one of South Africa’s leading sprinters, recorded two second places at the Zavody Olympic Indoor Grand Prix in Prague (Czech Republic) on Saturday.
It was the sprinter’s second outing of the European Indoor circuit after finishing third in a 60m race in Moscow a week ago.
On this occasion he first finished second to Nigeria’s Chinedu Oriala in a tight race over 60m, clocking 6,66 sec. Oriala won the race in 6,65 sec.
Nagel, who prefers to concentrate on the 200m with a view to selection for the World Outdoor Championships, was beaten into second place by Jiri Vojtek of the Czech Republic. Their respective times were 21,14 and 21,23 sec.
Nagel holds the SA indoor records over 60 and 200 metres since 2002 with performances of 6,48 and 20,54 sec. He also has the outdoor SA 200m record of 20,11 sec to his credit. - Sapa
