My failures today...

Today we lost the ALL-State meet because of my fear in my role as an assistant. Instead of being more vocal about how things should be done I kept my mouth shut. What might have been friction short term wise would have felt great if we made the changes. On seeds we should have won, but we didn’t execute. Relay exchanges were botched, people sank from 2nd to 5th, our distance star fell, and our morale sucked. Today was our first loss of the season and it hurt not to be the best. We set two school records today but being the best is such a relief to my nerves…

On a positive note Fluke and Magico were the best in the state coaching wise. They brought a freshman in and had her get second in one of the sprint events. She KNEW to be relaxed and looked in the rounds and came back to to get second. Her seed time had her at 5th! It was great meeting them.

It shows that the CFTS training system works…as for my lesson? Fight for what you believe in. This year I was in fear from all of my limitations.

Clemson what school do you coach for?

I hear you clemson…
On another positive high school end of season note…
An athlete that a good friend of mine is coaching who i have been implementing workouts for and actually trianing with occasioanlly since i have been home from school finished 2nd in his division of the state today in terrible weather. He started off the season running 11.56 F.A.T and 23.67 and continued to improve throughout the season and today ran 11.27 and 22.84. Another form of proof that Charlies methods work…
And I have alot of satisfaction form this as it is the the first athlete i have coached using these methods.

No failure here! You knew where others didn’t, and probably might not ever know or understand.

Like many before us, lesson learned and anxious to get back at it!

clemson-
you can hardly say that your team failed. you have one of the best teams in the state. once you can take over or be able to control (completely) workouts you will show your superior coaching.

thanks for the pep talk you gave our 200 runner, she thought it was great that a coach from another team acknowledged her.

also, i would like to thank you and everyone else on the cf forum that changed (and is still changing) my trainng philosophies.

Both you and Magico have a great team character wise…We were the team to beat on paper but crumbled. I may be in new colors next year…after the swim season I will decide if my suggestions have been implemented. Again for people in the know, I would give you guys coach of the year.

Ironic thing is that in the Globe two teams were in review…one gave assistants love the other didn’t even mention their names.

Clemson,
Can you come up to coach in New Jersey? PLLLEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE!!!

Magico, fluke, Clemson:

Best of luck with your athletes in New Britain, CT next weekend!

We have nationals…I am not going because it is not the true nationals. Good luck to everyone. The 4x100 got third…I wanted those guys to win it all…perhaps I will dig up some cash and get them real medals instead of the tiny miaa crap.

TMSSF-
Magico and I are bringing 2 girls to NE since we don’t have the funding to take anyone to nationals this year. Are you going to be there?

I’m not entirely certain at this moment.

  1. The school has 1 athlete that made it through. And there is some discussion with liability since they aren’t providing transportation support. The hope is that she can go with others on the Cape.

  2. I’m out of town much of this week. So I’m not working with her - the hope is that the head coach understands what I have prescribed!

  3. I’ll be officiating at Bay State Games Friday evening (given weather). We also have athletes going up to NH for JrOly.

I know. A simple question, not such a simple answer! I’m pretty certain you guys have similar situations?

By the way, how similar is your freshman sprinter’s training plan this week to Magico’s?

If I get out there, I’ll make a point to look for you guys!

Right now I’m just getting back into things so I’ve barely started speed work. Our freshman is very low on volume, but high in intensity. At this point, our workouts are completely opposite. Plus she is physically immature. Her actual age is 15, but has a biological age of 12-13. Eventually we think she’ll be a 400 runner, but she can’t handle the workload yet. She’s only run 2 open 400’s, and has a PR of 59.3. My goal from the winter was just to get her through both seasons without getting injured or burning out.

Which Bay States meet are you officiating?

Sounds familiar. Our plan has been that since last fall.

I’m scheduled to be at Oliver Ames today. With rain forcasted all day, who knows how this will go!

I’m going to watch a couple of my athletes compete today, so I will look for you at OA. Doesn’t look good with the rain though.

I have that ad clip and poster - it’s by far my favourite motivational trick!!
