Must have

why don’t evryone write down here the books and vids that constitute the theorethical base for any coach?

i’m not just talking about the classical of sports training, but even physiology, psycology, anatomy, nutrition ones.

the books i consider the most intresting are:

-FACT AND FALLACIES OF FITNESS - Mel C. Siff
-SUPERTRAINING - Mel C. Siff
-EXPLOSIVE LIFTING FOR SPORTS - HarVEY Newton
-SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF STRENGTH TRAINING - Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky, William J. Kraemer
-THE WEIGHTLIFTING ENCYCLOPEDIA - Arthur Drechsler

i’ve got lot more of Verch, Poliquin, Harre, Platonov, Cometti etc, but they’re all in italian.

thanks to all for the contribution

I too have a long list of important reads, but these are the most important, in no particular order.

-“Supertraining” by Mel Siff and Yuri Verkhoshansky
A great overview of training practice and theory the likes of which can’t be found elsewhere.

-“The Sports Book” by Dietrich Buchenholz
This book oulines what I consider to be the best method of organizing training and the best method of describing training methods, movements, arangements, etc.

-“Running: Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology in Practice” by Frans Bosch and Ronald Klomp
Though the majority of the training recommendations found within this book are poor, it gives the best breakdown of sprint form, both accel and top speed, that I’ve seen.

-Exercise Physiology: “Human Bioenergetics and Its Applications” by Brooks, Fahey, and White
Not much on training application, but it covers the physiology of exercise very well.

Like I said, I have a much longer list, but these are the absolute essentials.

Add to the list…

  1. Bompa’s "Periodization: Theory and methodology of training’

You really owe to the man to read his work, and not try to understand his system through the distorted vision of 3rd parties

  1. Programming and Organization by Y.V Verkhsohansky

Again, do not read Supertraining’s last edition by Siff. Go directly to the source and read this book. It could benefit from some Human Kinetics like editing, but it’s a jewel.

  1. “Fundamentals of strength training in sports” by Y. V. Verkhoshansky

A good grasp of the fundamentals help with programming and organization.

  1. I already mentioned “Adaptation in sport training” by the regretted A. Viru

  2. Issurin’s “Block Periodization: Breakthrough in Sport Training” published by Ultimate Athlete Concepts[/i]

Baiolo Karonte-

Do you know of any English translations of Platonov’s work?

Thanks

nope sorry i can’t help you

any other suggestions?

what do you think about the Poliquin’s manuals (if anyone read it) and about the Ian King’s stuff?

OK, so I’m partial to this list, but here’s mine:
(note I haven’t updated it yet to include the Bondarchuck and Issurin texts…
