Has anyone used it systematically ( www.firefox.com )? How does it compare with I.E.? Rupert? Others? Thanks!
Have used it for past 18 or so months at home and just upgraded to V2, I highly reccomend it.
I tried to download it but my windows xp wouldn’t accept it. microsoft has it’s own firewall, over and above introduced versions like firefox. then again, maybe my machine went rogue on me (again)
KK, perhaps if you could disable that firewall? I downloaded it today with no problems (not to piss you off or anything… ).
John, I just played with it a bit today; what would you say are its main advantages over I.E.? Or is it just different?
One advantage is you can resize the text on any webpage by holding down the CTRL key and the plus sign. You can make the text size ridiculous large. It will break down some layouts however. On internet explorer you can only do that on pages where the author has allowed it in their code. Also has better security features, better support for CSS code, which is the way most new sites are made.
OTOH, many sites are still optimized for IE, so they don’t appear right in Firefox or have features which don’t work at all.
Nah, got me a Norton atomic inferno-wall now.
I have never used IE on a regular basis. Firefox have been my chose from the early beta versions to this day.
I prefer firefox myself, I updated to ie7 but still rock firefox more often then not. More stable and less problems. Its got a more friendly interface too
Tabs over separate windows and V2 has an auto spell checker that even works in forums
The search function is good also - you can highlight words etc…
Thanks guys! I’ll give it a good try… What do you suggest for the favourite links I already have in I.E.? Is there a simple way to transfer them? I didn’t do it when I first downloaded Firefox, as I was testing something else and wanted it to work completely separately from the I.E. …
EDIT: Answer - File > Import
Firefox works just fine! The only “problem” is that the scroll-down in my mouse doesn’t do saved “back” function -any idea how I can fix this? I.E. v.7 is ridiculously similar to Firefox! A good enough reason to stick with Firefox…
