Kelli White, women’s 100m: “I knew when I came out to the track and trained yesterday, we were going to run fast. The Mondo makes it a lot easier to run. The whole time I was coming down the track, I was thinking how easy this feels. [On her fast time] I’m just doing my job. This is what I’m supposed to do. This is what I train for. I’m glad it wasn’t [wind legal]. That’s a lot of pressure. … I have two weeks until nationals, to get ready to run a 200.”

Maurice Greene, Verizon men’s 100m: “Everybody was saying I’m done, I’m through, I’m finished, I’m washed up, I’m no good. But who cares. No matter what the headlines say, you have to go to the line and be ready to run. This is the start of my year. In Portland, I wasn’t able to go to the next gear. I felt a lot better today. I think I ran a very good race today. I put a lot of pressure on myself to come out here and run fast. In this sport, a lot of pressure can come on you. You have to remember one thing – you have to have fun and enjoy yourself. At Portland, my best friend, Larry Wade, told me I didn’t look like the same person. I wasn’t having fun. So I came out here to have fun. I hope the fans enjoyed the show.”
Great runs by Greene and White. I guess Charlie is right that its never good to judge athletes first up performances. White looks the real deal. She’s run PBs in both short sprints 10.96/22.33A and now a 10.79 which is the fastest time under all conditions since Marion in the Sydney final where she ran 10.75. Zhanna is going to have to get it right this year to guarantee a win. She might turn into an Ottey in 97 when she thought it must be her year with Torrence and Devers out and her 10.74PB the year before only to have Jones emerge and win.
It is just the photo. Here is another. Whats with the strapping on his knee. Been told by someone that Dan Pfaff predicted in 2000 taht one of Mo’s knees would blow out due to the technique hs runs with, but i can’t remember the reason given for it. Anyone like to have a guess?
Just out of interest how long did it take mo to recover from that knee injury? Was it clear/publicised when it began and when it stopped? Is that the same knee plastered as in the World champs 2001? If it is chronic tendinosis it will be interesting to follow. This as well as reports of TM’s achillies problem.
I saw Mo at the Boston Indoor games…he took off his shirt during a warm-up and the fans went nuts. He may be a few pounds heavier, but 4 pounds look like 15 on a lean athlete. As for the knee I don’t think it’s a problem.
people where do you get all these photos from. I think greene is looking abit bigger this year, but that means the man is stronger. Also i think he is comfortable at his weight.
