Mike Barwis - "Barwis Methods"

Yeah I would say your biased. To give credit where credit is due the baseball, track and gymnastics are excellent and Ive met them an there good people. Now the S&C staff is idiots controlled by 1 main idiot. I know people who train some kids there an they all hate the football staff, well at least rich rod and barwis.

Yeh, I’ll take a BMW any day over a benz. My mom has had her BMW for about 10yrs and hate the maintenance bill.

I like winners and they win…

Why you like them?

All I hear and read is that Rich Rod is not well thought of by many at all.

1: Barwis learn under Al Johnson who is a legend, no one “bitch” when he had WVU and OSU winning. Barwis uses a similar system as Big Al, when Big Al was at WVU they did workouts such as 16x220 uphill!!!

2: Rich is a great football coach, gotta give him time. It’s like going from a run and shoot offense to a wish bone, it takes time to get your guys in place. U of M fans need to get over it and learn how to adopt to change.

3: I have spoken to coaches, scouts, former players and they all had good things to say about Rich. Was he a tough ass coach - Yes. Did he yell, scream, and use F-bombs - Yes. After all he is coaching college football - not peewee.

when did rich rod win games at michigan? takes great players and wins 5 games. Edit: so you think he’ll win 8-9 games next year? If he doesn’t, he is not what he’s hyped up to be. I can name 10 coaches off the top of my head that won more games that he in their first seasom-- with equal or less talent.

barwis sounds like a smart guy. But he doesn’t say anything that any other S&C would “say”

Its a shame a guy like him is a “unique” coach in college football. Every coach has their own method and gets paid to work their plan-- whether it works or not.

Following a 10-2 (5-2 Big East) season in 2007 in which his team won the Big East title and a Bowl Championship Series berth, he was named the AFCA Region I Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Boston College’s Jeff Jagodzinski.

Look at the track record, it takes time, learn the game before you go talking non-sense.

1988 Salem 2-8
1990 Glenville State 1-7-1
1991 Glenville State 4-5-1
1992 Glenville State 6-4

1993 Glenville State 10-3, WVIAC champion
1994 Glenville State 8-3, WVIAC champion
1995 Glenville State 8-2, WVIAC champion
1996 Glenville State 6-4, WVIAC champion

2001 West Virginia 3-8, 1-6
2002 West Virginia 9-4, 6-1 Continental Tire/L, 22-48 (Virginia)
2003 West Virginia 8-5, 6-1 Big East champion Gator Bowl/L, 7-41 (Maryland)
2004 West Virginia 8-4, 4-2 Big East champion Gator Bowl/L, 18-30 (Florida State)
2005 West Virginia 11-1, 6-0 Big East champion Sugar Bowl/W, 38-35 (Georgia)
2006 West Virginia 11-2, 5-2 Gator Bowl/W, 38-35 (Georgia Tech)
2007 West Virginia 10-2, 5-2 Big East champion Fiesta Bowl (Oklahoma)

16x220. damn.

I got no problem with him besides that freaky looking wife of his. I watched his WVU team destroy Miss State, embarrassing.

learn the game? The way i see it, if he doesn’t win 7+ games this year, he’s out at Michigan. He went 3-9 and 5-7. It takes time to take a loser to a winner, not a team that went 9-3 the yera before and turn them into a 3-9 team.

iowa state new coach paul rhoads took a 2-10 team from the year before and went 7-6 his first year including a bowl win. Does michigan not have the talent lowly iowa state does?

with him philosophically and likely never will. Like I said, I just hate having to explain that running the absolute piss out of your kids isn’t the anwser to all that ails teams. Barwis tries to beln way too many schools of training into one cohesive program and so far has had little to show for it. Especially the second half advantage. They got mopped up in the 3rd quarter all year. I think he is a great motivator who get’s kid’s to buy into what he does. That’s a plus, but his constant bullshitting about max lifts is bordering on ridiculous. I watch Mike Martin several times in high school and he was a beast, but I will bet my condo he doesn’t clean anywhere near 475 lbs. Like I said, Pudzianowski who is the Worlds strongest man said he has cleaned 496 lbs. I find it hard to believe that a 21 year old is doing a clean 20 lbs off that. Charts are unreliable indicators at that level of weight. I just wish he would stop with all the insanity. No S&C coach has ever gotten more fan fare than Barwis, most of it undeserved from my opinion. I was a huge WVU fan by the way.

Sorry to break it to ya dude but they dont win anymore. Ill admit I also was a fan of wvu but I knew that they couldnt stop anybody. Thats what happening to everyones beloved michigan. At least with lloyd carr there I knew we had a tough game to play on both sides of the ball. Now we just know there fast but so are we, ohio state, penn state, etc.
I woke up to the big ten network playing the mich-ohio state game and I was laughing on how they were getting blown off the ball.
Mike Gittleson would have never let that happened.

Yeah, I basically sai 3 years ago that whenever they lined up against power teams, they would get pushed all over the field. So far, I have been spot on. Not that it was hard to predict. Simple formula, overtrain, don’t respect recovery, and belittle your players too much and this is the end result. RB34 is correct, this is not your dads U of M. The crowds that watch practice need to ear muff their kid. Talk about cursing a blue streak.

I went to the gmac bowl last year an I heard HOW DID THEY LET YOU DOWN HERE? I looked over an it was lloyd carr with a smile on his face. I had on my msu sweatshirt and he was on the sidelines just doin some PR stuff. The camera shined on us and he told me this is against all he believes in, taken a picture with a spartan. But he was a good dude and he got a standing ovation.
Numnuts( rich rod) was there also an people were flicking him off and booing him. It was great!

Sorry to break it to you, when you have Rich Rod coaching resume then you can call out the man. This would be like you calling Tyson Gay coach lame because he don’t do the shit you like to do.

Trust me my man Im not hating. As much as I hate to say it they should have hired Les Miles like it was originally planned. At least with Moffit the guys wouldnt get injured so much and 40 some kids wouldnt have transfered.

They’ll get their shot at Les Miles and see how he sucks worse than RR. No more Saban players at LSU. Still got talent though and Les squanders it.

Really? I always thought he did somewhat well. They always seem to win 9+ games. Oh is it just talent winning the games?

How can you not win 9 at LSU. The guy is a moron. Clock management ring a bell…
Just listen to an interview.

Check the Ole Miss and Penn State games from last year.

How you know guys wouldn’t get injured under Moffit? The guys who left U of M were probably pussies, real players don’t leave when it get tough.

You played college ball, you know that it is a complete change of styles at Michigan. Not arguing but isn’t Justin Boren on Ohio State, starting? Wasn’t he the guy who was heavily criticized by Barwis and RR as being soft? He starts on a team that has been beating Michigan for the better part of 10 years. In sll honesty, I think people get sick of getting talked to the way they do. I know a team manager and he said it’s a little over the top. Personally, I don’t see the need to pound the daylights out of players with conditioning like they do. One of my former athletes plays for the KC Chiefs. He gave a talk at Macomb Dakota, a very successful local high school and when the coach asked them what they do for conditioning, and his response was “Not nearly as much as you do”. That struck me as odd that the local high school kills their kids, but yet an NFL football player in the hardest league in the world does so much less. The NFL understands the season is all about recovery. People like James Smith understand that and hopefully he will pave a path for a new breed of S&C coach and get away from the run til they puke then run em some more. That’s just my take, i could be wrong.
