RALEIGH, North Carolina, May 9 Reuters-
Former Olympic sprint queen Marion Jones will run her first race in almost a year when she competes against ex-world champion Torri Edwards over 100 metres at Veracruz in Mexico.
``She is looking forward to running again and is hoping to run a good race,’’ her manager Charles Wells told Reuters in a telephone interview from his Keller, Texas office today.
Jones, 30, has not competed since finishing fourth in a 100 metres at Monterrey, Mexico, on June 11, 2005.
She warmed up for the 100 metres preliminaries at the U.S. championships two weeks later but did not race because of what Wells described as a hip flexor problem.
Jones, who won five medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics including three golds, has run poorly since having a child with former world record holder Tim Montgomery in June 2003.
Saturday’s meeting also will include American record-holder Maurice Greene in the 100 metres, Olympic and world long jump champion Dwight Phillips and former Olympic and world champion Allen Johnson in the 110 metres hurdles , according to the event’s Web site.
Greene finished third in a 100 metres race in Guadeloupe eight days ago.
``He’s got a foot problem, but he wants to test it,’’ Emanuel Hudson, Greene’s, manager, said via phone from California.
