Recently I read on the internet that Marion was, at some point, able to dunk a basketball at 5’10. When I asked my cousin, who was a D1 player at this same time, she confirmed this and stated that she has witnessed this (but not in a game). This means that Marion’s vertical leap would have to be at least 35"-possibly more as smaller hands require greater height. I thought this to be an incredible feat of athleticism. Two coaches for the USA Olympic team stated that they get “chills” and “goosebumps” just watching her run or even train because the power is so awesome.
Watching Marion do pop-up drills for long jump was incredibly humbling. If Marion gets her long jump technique corrected (as well as some sprint technique issues), the women’s long jump world record should be history.
What are pop-up drills?
Short approach take-offs (LJ or TJ). Typically done to monitor and improve penultimate stride mechanics and take-off mechanics.
Thanks Number Two!
She was able to dunk while still a junior.
Amazing. Now I understand the chills and goosebumps.
