AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - Marion Jones will run the 100 meters at the FBK meet in the Netherlands next week, organizers said Friday.
After an 11-month absence from competition, the American sprinter made an impressive return last week, winning in 11.06 seconds at the Gala Banamex Veracruz meet in Jalapa, Mexico.
It was the second-fastest time of the season, 0.02 off the time set by Allyson Felix in mid-April.
“Marion Jones was very enthusiastic about her time in Veracruz, and so we jumped in immediately to ask her to come here,” said Ellen van Langen, publicist for the May 28 meet in Hengelo. “After her good experience here last year, she wanted to run in Hengelo.”
The former Olympic champion finished second in the 100 in Hengelo last year in a modest time of 11.29 seconds. While other European meets declined to invite her amid doping allegations, Hengelo fans gave her a warm welcome.
Jones, who won three golds and five medals overall at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, has a personal best of 10.65 in the 100.
