A French long jumper has been hit by a javelin thrown by another competitor at the Rome Golden League athletics meeting.
Salim Sdiri was speared by the javelin thrown by Finland’s Tero Pitkamaki.
The long jumping and javelin events were staged simultaneously and Pitkamaki had been on the other side of the stadium.
When making the throw, Pitkamaki appeared to lose his footing and his throw veered off course.
The javelin left a 4 cm injury on Sdiri’s right side and he has been taken to hospital
