Hi
I was just wondering how much the height of the athlete affects performance in the long jump? Also, generally what magnitude of a jump would earn scholarship considerations in NCAA for high school men? Thanks
Height actually i dont think would matter too much except when you see athletes that are over say 6’4" because then they dont usually have the same leg speed. But a short athlete, say 5’6" could still do very well. A friend of mine who graduated from my high school (tustin high, ca) by the name of denny casupanan was between 5’5"-5’6". and at CIF finals he jumped 24’ 8.5". Now thats a huge jump for a little guy. But i think a scholarship worthy jump would be about 23’.
K, thanks for the info
What are you marks in the long jump?
my pr is 6.36m but that was last year in grade 10 (age 15) when i was really raw and didn’t really have a grasp on correct technique. This year i think i’m going to try and concentrate on this event, and all of my workouts and plyo’s have been geared towards it. I’ve gotten alot stronger and gained lots of explosiveness through my workouts, so i would like about 6.70 or more this season
