"Locked hips"

Guys,
ive had some real problems generating hip power in the last few years. Ive been told that when you have locked hips you should receive professional attention. Also, when i try and stretch my hip area, i get a click, click, click as it feels like my bones are seperating.
Does it sound like i have ‘locked hips’
What are your experiences of locked hips?
What would your advice be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Never heard of “locked” hips. But every athlete should have their ROM (range of movement) checked by their physio or chiropractor before commencing training and at various times during the season, especially before time-trials and races.

If your mobility seems restricted, it may be simply a flexibility issue. Try some yoga, tell the instructor you want special front-to-rear ROM exercises to do. But really, any of your basic athletics stretches, especially those done by hurdlers, should suffice.

If you cannot do those stretches because your muscles are at risk of tearing, I’d definitely be checking in with the chiropractor because they are biomechanists and they can adjust any pelvic misalignments which can put muscles on stretch and create that tightness. You do not want tightness.

What sort of flexibility training would you suggest? Would you do it daily?

Your posts make it seem like you want someone to do it for you. kitkat1 was very helpful.

i can understand your problem, bc i have exactlly the same…

what i can tell you:

  1. take your time
  2. mobility work every day will make it more painful
3.first check the muscles for tightness
  3. be careful so that you arent getting your joints hypermobile!!!
  4. some exercises that help me, if its very painful:
    a) hanging on a pullup-bar and “play” with your pelvic for mobility
    b) same as a) but hanging reverse(not too long  )
6.remember: the best recovery is the physical autonome recovery-so take not just 1 day off, make 2-3 if its neccesary…

A question to you: do you also have nerve pains because of that?

rgds

No, i get no nerve pain. just very stiff and clicking when i move my hips about. Where should i get checked out?
