Live from the Seminar

So far we’ve covered,

  1. Strength Development – Discuss priorities and guidelines for strength training programs for different sports – 90 minutes (9:30am)

· Olympic lifting – Pros and cons for different athletes and different sports
· Strength training progressions – What are some sample routines for rapid strength gain?
· When to say when? – How much strength do you actually need for different sports? When does too much strength (or too much time training strength) become a problem?
· Strength training for young athletes - What type of strength training is appropriate for the novice/child athlete? When is it appropriate to start them on a strength training program?
· Strength maintenance in-season – Taper out weights completely? What is the minimum amount needed to maintain strength?
· Chains, bands, time-under-tension and other new developments in strength training
· Core strength and core stability – Is there more than one way to train it? Is this concept being over-analyzed?

Overall there has been very high quality dicussions, back and forth between the three panel members along with contributions from guest speakers.

Stay tuned for more!

Update two.

Following a lunch break we’re moving into Power Development, Olympic lifting, Plyometrics and Speed Development!

Wish i was there!

more chance of a UK one than one in NZ :frowning:
although one in NZ or Aus in March next year tieing in with the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne makes a lot of sense (well to me it does  )

Seminars completel now. I personally thought it went very well, with each speaker contributing very good material. I loved Al’s live demo’s at random haha. The questions portion was very good as well. Good questions with high quality answers.

What was the consensus regarding time under tension? I can see how it would work very well in a health club setting using primarily machine based training but can’t see it being so useful in sports…

What do you mean? examples?

Do you WANT a seminar in Australia (together with the Commonwealth Games) or is it already been organised?

I was suggesting one.
