Attention here, because sometimes stats can also fool you,
i know, numbers are numbers, 2+2 = 4
but as we are talking about body size (weight & height), it could be an unending discuss.
I know guys under 75kg ( 165lb ) - 6 feet tall that appears biger than 85kg guy…it´s hard to affirm anything without the “alive” comparison.
Lets remind some interest points;
a) Muscles represent 40 to 45% body weight
b) Bones represent about 15%
c) Head represent about 6%
d) Brain represent about 2% (out of discussion)…
That’s a typo mistake, Burrell definitively not ran 9.85 in 1999, it was Maurice Greene.
Body Weight doesn’t tell the whole story, and if we watch Atlanta’96 Trials, we see that Burrell was bigger (mainly upper body) than Greene ever was. I’ve searched pictures on the net but nothing interesting (only details or small pictures.)
thats true about burrell in 99, i never recall him running 9.85 in 99 it was mo greene, word!
and i guess that overall appereance could be misleading sometimes, so i guess both stats and watching the films are BOTH as important
sprinters size, as discussed in an old post, vary during the career, whereas the stats on the t&f federation remains the same.
however, regarding big men, remember of john regis?HUGE!!
Oh my god !!
I never see this guy !!
He is extremely big !! His head too !! How fast he was ?
I found a picture in Corbis Site where Linford was like a child beside John Regis, but i don´t know how to post this pic here.
Below another píc…
I see every one talking about who’s bigger. Is there any proportionality between size and speed? May be to an extent or may be not, but I really don’t know. Just asking
Nope !!
Anyone can run faster
short, tall, “fat”, lean, muscular, thin, even “old” and “young”… It doesn´t matter,
i know a little guy 5’4" (1.60m) that run 6.7s to 60m / 10.2s to 100m and 20.60s to 200m !!! otherwise, we have big guys like John Regis ( +200lb ) and JJJ, even in 200m we have now Usai Bolton, he is about 6’6" ( 1.95m ) and he is capable to run a sub 20 for 200m.
But of course, “laws of physics” have favourites…
Fast, at this phase of your life, what is your schedule talking about weights & periodization ?
I mean, you said that you felt that your body was calling for some rest, so, how many weeks are you spending with max loads and how many days or weeks are you taking for rest ?
having just come across this post i am still shaking my head.guys let me tell you that leroy burrell was the first sprinter ever that i was stunned at when i met him at the UH back in 1995.i was shocked about the fact how big he was and his legs wow!!
i remember daly thompson called leroy a “fat-cat” during the '91 WC because with his singlet on he looked chunky.after finishing behind carl in the 100 they all paraded round during the 100 victory lap and the tops started coming off and the british press along with thompson had to eat their words.he was shocked by the sheer mass of the guy and his definition.
overall leroy was well proportioned.his lower body matched his upper body and he ran with great spring for a huge guy.in 91/92 his form was aweful and aweful to watch also but they all decided to work on technique thus should lead to the WR again.in 95 his form was absolutly brilliant,he accelerates like carl, his form was like carl and he had it all.its just a pity injury got the better but this guy was brilliant.
