lcrunner journal

Hi all - i just found this site and the forums (which are great! I like to see a forum with a lot of regular postings…) so decided that i myself will start a journal! I am forever planning to make plans, and this way at least i will have a record of my progress (or non-progress haha)

ok - stats:
Female, age 23yrs, height of 5’2" (about 157cm) weight of about 105lbs.

Only a couple of days ago i began to entertain the idea of becoming a sprinter… I have always been a regular gym goer and love to run outside so i am quite fit, physically.

Lately I have begun a more intensive weight training program than I am used to - focusing especially on working out my leg muscles. I can lift 60kgs on the leg press machine which i think is not so bad for my size - i expect to increase it significantly over the next few months…

HOWEVER! Back to the sprinting plan… tho i guess since its MY journal I can talk about both my sprinting AND my weight workout - so there! (i dont know who Im talking to…god maybe?!)

Last night i got on the track for the first time, just to check if I am a slowpoke or not, and based purely on my watch (its not even a stopwatch lol) I think my 100m time was 16 seconds. I am assuming that is pretty bad - considering everybody seems to be doing it in 11!! But I will get better, I just need practice… i wonder tho is 16 seconds average/low for someones first sprint attempt?

What i did was jog to the gym/track (1.5miles) then i jog 300m of the track, then sprint the last 100, and back to light jog again for 300 etc. I did it maybe 5-6 times and then went into the gym for my normal workout (with reduced cardio)

My plan is to do the sprint training perhaps 3-4 days of the week, and on top of this i will have 3 miles of jogging each day (to and from gym) and perhaps 4-5 weights workouts with some cardio mixed in - I do the cross trainer on a high level for 2-3 10minute spurts keeping my heart rate between 80-90% of maximum when I can. Its tough!!

Anyway since I have invented this plan myself… It is quite likely to be the wrong approach…but if anyone wishes to bestow advice upon me, i will be more than welcoming. (cash donations also welcome…hehe)

Oh! and for my warmup I do stretches for maybe only five minutes at home then the light jog to the gym… i think that 5mins to stretch is probably not enough?

thank you!

sigh. Its been a bad weekend - friday i rested, saturday one hour of intensive squash with my brother followed by an abs& triceps workout. My entire body was aching on sunday so i didnt exercise only to take a leisurely walk.

So several weeks of weight training, combined with a lot more food than i am used to and it turns out i have lost weight - so annoying. ANd ironic! I remember when all i wanted was to be skinny skinny and even starvation would not get me sub 95, and now on 2000+cals a day Im pushing the 100 mark. Crazy.

So today i am planning a chest, back, shoulders and abs workout - plus some sprint training - i have bought a stopwatch.

So the plan is upper body mon weds, lower body tues thurs(+triceps), rest friday, sat squash + abs. Sunday I will do a long jog maybe 9 miles. Sprint training Mon, Wed, Thurs.

AND of course, I need to work on getting more protein into my diet and maybe more calories too… its just so hard! I mean, i have no prob getting lots of cals if Im allowed to eat sweets and chocolate lol but when it comes to getting them from healthy foods only it gets tough.

Im going to have to get some of those protein bars

Will post sprint times in the morning…perhaps i can get my time down to 15secs for the 100
