Branch-Chain Amino Acids. Do a search on this site and you’ll find numerous threads covering this topic.

You might also want to do a search over at T-mag. There has been a lot written there on this subject.

You can find a series of articles I wrote a while back on BCAA supplementation here:

Estimated daily requirements of BCAA for athletes in intensive training:
Bodyweight (lbs) Leucine (grams) Valine (grams) Isoleucine (grams)
88 2.1 2.0 .8
110 3.0 2.5 1
132 3.6 3.0 1.2
154 4.2 3.5 1.4
176 4.8 4.0 1.6
198 5.4 4.5 1.8
220 6.0 5.0 2.0
242 6.6 5.5 2.2
264 7.2 6.0 2.4

that is alot of bcaa’s does anyone know and supplements with that many bcaa’s.

that’s estimated required amounts from dietary intake as well as supplementation. I’ve known people who’ve supplemented with 40 grams per day but that’s no necessary. In fact 90% of the time it’s not necessary to supplement them at all.

How do you know if you need them at all?

Well nobody really “needs” them. But those who are restricting calories can probably benefit a lot more. They seem to more or less allow you to maintain anabolism while eating lower calories then what it would normally take to get that same amount of anabolism.

Just incidently on the whole contamination issue I came across this …
