Krasnayafleur's training #2

Wow… I think you can speak for more than just a few of us Zenoth… Lovin the new avatar…

lol to put everything in context
how old is everyone?

i will be 19 in less than a month’s time

oh wow
now i feel old
lol
i’m 22. So who’s excited for fall training?

are you kidding me? i turn 19 in less than a week!

19, turning 20 in January

FINALLY AFTER 40 HOURS OF TRAVELING
i am back st school. I dragged all 10 (yes 10) of my boxes into my room and wrestled with furniture and unpacked stuff and passed out for a while, and now it is back to the unpacking process.

my back hurts so bad

The gym does not open for its regular hours for another couple days, which is kind of frustrating. I have spent the afternoon charting my double-major, VERY complicated, and now I am moving on to try to chart a workout plan. I am not playing field hockey this year which is a little sad, because that was a good way to keep in shape and stay on grass. Usually there is “fall track” for track kids not in a fall sport, but as much as if helps to work out with other people, I would rather do things that I know will work for me.

I really enjoy long runs a lot, but that probably won’t do all that much for the kind of work capacity I want to work on, so I will have to go back over my previous journal and figure some things out- in HS we used a long to short program in a general way, so I will most likely go that route again.

Once classes start… god knows what will happen to me. 5 classes at williams is no joke, it will probably be a good thing that I will have extra time to work.

What are your two main areas of study? I don’t remember from your old journal, but why did you choose to go to Williams (middle of nowhere)?

Nice avatar for the fellas here.

im majoring in psychology and american studies, and a minor in legal studies if i can fit the courses in. I chose williams because it is the #1 ranked college in the country, top of D3 in track, and most importantly they gave me the most money.

sometimes i regret not having gone to a D1 school, and I do miss the city quite a lot.

Jesus, Shumon Cool’s taking interest in this journal alot more.

I like it. Keep it up.

Ya get me.

Am something like a legend
With Love

finally something to be proud of

I went back through some of the vacation workout sheets my head coach gave the sprinters last year and also thorugh my old journal, and picked out some useful workouts. I picked one and modified it so that I wouldn’t kill myself on the first real day back. Once I get started I always want to just go go go, but I am trying to be smart and get back into things at a pace that I will be able to maintain.

-10 min jog, 2 min. stretch for a couple tight spots, 10 min. faster-paced jog
-mobility exercises, 300m sprint drills
-2 laps form run (70-75%) on straights, fast walk on curves
-5x 50s on, 10s off: 1xplank, 1x"dead bug" crunches, 1xback ext, 1x side plank each side

2 min walking/stretching rest

-2 laps form run (same %) straights, fast walk curves, focusing on arms and running up straight and not leaning forward
-3x50s on, 10s off: 1xstanding squats, 25s each leg side leg raises (aka “doggies”), 1xside-to-side ab twists, then took the remaining 2 min to do a mini pushup+crunch circuit of 5 pushups straight to 10 crunches, 4 pushups+ 9 crunches, etc down to 1 and 5 with no rest.
-hurdle mobility: pretty low-key for a CD, walkovers with both legs, sideways, lead and trail, and then faster step-overs.

Refuled properly- I realized I think I had maybe 2 bananas all summer… they are so delicious. I am pretty sure the weight room is closed today for labor day or else I would go there tonight. This workout left me so motivated and so so happy  Reminds me why I love track. I always feel so much more at peace and it really gets rid of my despair that things will ever work out for me.

Went of spoke with the field hockey coach as well just to explain that I am taking 5 classes this semester and that after burning out last year I thought it might be good for me to take some time off. She agreed, and encouraged me to play JV for fun and to keep my skills up with the reduced time committment and pressure, and also said that anytime I want to come back to varsity I am welcome, because I am “so fit and great” that it helps motivate the rest of the team.

all in all a good day. Going for some low-key photo shoots, will be back tommorow.

had a couple of great shoots, now back on campus and ready (sort of) to start classes tommorow.

i went to see my coach, who told me that I am too good of an athlete to let go by the wayside, and he heard me loud and clear about the kind of training that works for me.

Despite my atrocious course load, things are looking up.

-easy run to loosen up, i had a tiny bit of soreness today

today was real long, had 4 classes in a row and was pretty shot when i got home. I was sitting around my room and decided not to work out today, then realized that that is how I let myself go during the summer- by taking “just one day off” day after day.

soooo i got off my ass and went to the track where I did
-a really thorough warmup, drills, and hurdle mobility
-4x100 @75ish %, walk back recovery
-10 min core/general strength circuit

I haven’t been feeling great, I think i may be allergic to something in the air which has been giving me some trouble with my nose and throat. My legs have a little bit of soreness, so I am still just trying to get used to running again.

something is better than nothing, even if it’s only 400m of actual running :o

What do you hope to use your psychology for? I’m thinking about going back to uni, to study psychology (perhaps with sociology) to start with, then moving into clinical psych. and/or psychotherapy, if I do well enough. I’m going to train as a counsellor first though.

I am actually thinking about going to law school, but I have a pretty strong draw to psychology so i don’t know if that will end up changing my plans in the next couple years.

Turns out i was right about feeling “off,” I have an infection which has been making me feel crappy for a couple weeks now so I will be taking some antibiotics tommorow when the alcohol makes it out of my system.

no workout today, felt so blechh

starting to feel better, i will go out for some tempo on grass and core later this evening. appetite has been raging, i hope all the food is going for the infection-destroying-cells fund.

this semester is:

neuroscience (anatomy, physiology, chemistry, motor and sensory systems, development and plasticity, hormones and behavior… hell hell hell)
experimentation and statistics in psychology
intro to african american writing
american studies survey
moral and political philosophy

when i actually emerge from the library i will write a broad weekly plan of the sorts of workouts that i think work for me, and see how it compares to what the captains do when we have our organizational meeting tommorow.

had to go to a meeting that i forgot about, so i had to do my run on the treadmill instead of the grass:
-5 min jog warmup, 6x1 min. on, 1 min. off; 4x30s on, 1 min. off, with each run getting faster. CD for the remaining time to round out 30 min.
-12 min. core/general strength circuit
-18 min easy bike to make it an even hour

i need to STOP EATING SO MUCH

eating would be normal… dont flip out so much.

i actually tend to eat MORE when i am not working out, so it is doubly bad. Today I did a proper workout and my appetite was not quite so high, and i also was craving healthy stuff instead of cookies. weird how that works.

today’s workout i was pretty motivated… actually I was not all that excited to do hills, but I had already planned my day out (no class until 1pm) and i had promised myself that i would do it, so i went to the infamous “bee hill”:

-1+ mile run to the hill, short mobility and drills
-6x30s steep hill sprints, walk-back rest (2 min)
-1+ mile run back

food, sat through class dazed, snack, another class, relaxed for a bit, then upper lift:

-mid-grip bench 5x4-6, 2 min btw
-close-grip parallel chins (as many as possible), straight into 6-8 lats, 2 min btw sets, 3 sets

  • dumbbell RR, 3x8 each arm
    -bi’s 3x8 paired with tri’s 3x10-12
    -some abs and back ext
-a few minutes of biking to cool down a bit

went to a track meeting, nothing too interesting. i met the new jumps coach from ohio university, he is pretty young but seems like a good guy who is willing to share his coaching time with coach white, thank god.

This is the first lifting i have done in a while so my arms are pretty tired, but I was gratified to know that I haven’t lost EVERYTHING, i am still capable of doing a few chins in a row. Ideally I would like to just do tempo tommorow and not do a lower lift after doing hills today, but since I may not get a chance to lift on friday I will have to shift a bit to accomadate. I don’t think 6x30s is anything ridiculous, so maybe I will feel ok tommorow.

on another note, i realized to my horror that my shaker cup still had shake residue in it when it got packed up in DC and sent to school, and despite my having washed it at least 6 times, i don’t think it’s going to recover. booooo.
