DENVER, Colorado: Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks won the 2005 NBA dunk contest as part of the All-Star weekend in Denver.
The Hawks rookie scored a perfect 50 from judges on his first dunk of the night in the popular competition, a highlight of the league’s annual All-Star festivities.
Smith wore the jersey of former Atlanta great Dominique Wilkins, then had another perfect score on his second dunk in his new Hawks jersey to win the event.
Phoenix Suns Amare Stoudemire finished second in the competition, which featured spectacular stunts, such as Smith taking a pass from Denver’s Kenyon Martin, who was seated in a chair, and dunking after sailing over his head.
Quentin Richardson of the Suns won the three-point shooting contest, making his last nine shots in the final.
Philadelphia’s Kyle Korver finished second, just one point behind Richardson.
Steve Nash of the Suns won the skills challenge, finishing the dribbling, passing and shooting course nearly 12 seconds faster than Earl Boykins of Denver.
Shawn Marion, Diana Taurasi and Dan Majerle of Phoenix completed a big night for Suns players by winning the shooting stars competition, making shots from six spots in just 28 seconds.
The All-Star game takes place on Sunday, with the leading players from the Eastern Conference meeting their counterparts from the West.
Yeah, the kid’s got ok reactive ability.
I kid. What’s amazing is how high he gets for dunks in games. Above the square with 2 hands.
imagine how high he could get if he actually trained for vert in the off season the same goes with lebron. they are freaks of nature
Why train for his vertical when he is among the leagues best jumpers but has relatively poor fundamentals that could improve his game a hell of a lot more then jumping.
That’s an interesting point, nba3km. But still, Christ, if only that was all of our starting points at age 19!

The white guy could have! If he could hang on to the damn ball!
I would have nutted the black guy with my face, but I’m a dick when I play b-ball.
I think JR Smith should’ve been in the finals. It’s too bad some of the bigger names won’t compete.
Imagine Vince, Kobe, Richardson, Francis, Lebron, Davis, etc. That would be nice…
Yeah, Shaq was saying they need to increase how much the prize is to bring in the big guns.
are there any vids I can download of the dunk comp?
any more vince carter vids?
