UK – Jodie Williams (16) 22.79
After dismal weather for the previous month in Britain, the Loughborough International was staged in glorious hot weather with some breeze to aid the sprinters, although such conditions were against round-the-track performances. The headline came from double World Youth champion Jodie Williams, who ran 22.79 for 200m. This took her to fourth on the world all-time list for Youths behind Marion Jones USA 22.58 (1992), Raelene Boyle AUS 22.74A (1968) and Chandra Cheeseborough USA 22.77A (1975). The previous European youth record was 22.82 by Grit Breuer GDR (1989). Only Kathy Cook (22.70A in Mexico City 1979) ever ran faster as a British junior and Williams has two more years as a junior. Superstar Jessica Ennis won both 100mh and HJ and threw the javelin 43.86

JODIE WILLIAMS produced a blazing performance at the CAU Inter-Counties Championships in Bedford on May 31 as the 16-year-old smashed the UK junior 100m record.

Just one week after blasting to a UK youth record over 200m of 22.79, the Herts Phoenix athlete was at the top of her game again, winning the 100m in 11.24 (0.8).

Williams, whose previous PB stood at 11.39, improved Asha Philip’s UK youth record from 11.37 and even more significantly, the double world youth champion lowered Kathy Cook’s UK under-20 record from 11.27.

Williams’s performance also equates to a European youth record and the favourite for the World Junior Championships in Sudbury moves to equal No.7 on the all-time under-17 lists.

After an unconvincing start to the 2010 campaign, Goldie Sayers enjoyed a confidence boosting performance in the javelin. The Olympic fourth placer set a season’s best performance of 63.15m, which also translates to a 5m improvement on her best mark in 2010.

In other events, Matthew Roberts won the high jump with a PB of 2.21m, Luke Cutts won the pole-vault with 5.45m and Jade Nicholls set a PB of 56.17m to win the discus.
