CHRIS Rawlinson has revealed that the stress involved with being Jana Pittman’s coach and lover almost resulted in the pair breaking up last year.
He also dismissed reports Pittman would base herself in Britain.
The Englishman, who will marry Pittman a week after the Games, admitted they had struggled with the coaching arrangement – particularly after his career was derailed by a serious groin injury.
Rawlinson said the two champion hurdlers had reached a point where “we were questioning whether we actually still wanted to be with each other because we just pissed each other off that much”.
“We had to figure out when I’m coach and when I’m fiance,” he said.
“This year is the second year into it and we understand each other a lot more.”
He said Pittman would not quit Australia.
“We have a house, dogs and a huge fish tank – so we are not going anywhere,” Rawlinson said.
