A WR by 3 tenths!!
Ya they definitely lost a tenth in every hand off simply because it wasnt super smooth, but oh well they absolutely tore it apart anyways.
Either of the 2nd or 3rd legs can be made to be longest. It is a misconception than the 2nd leg is longest - it depends on where the exchanges occur within the zones. The 2nd leg can be the shortest as well.
The first and fourth legs can be 90-110m.
The second and third legs can be 80-120m.
Jamaica lost at least 2 tenths on the final exchange. Maybe another tenth on the second. Solid hand-offs would have given them an unbelievable time of … 36.8!
Leave that team as is and their a mid 36.xx(36.4-36.6. Adjust the order and their going to run even faster.
Interesting.
Bolt did lose something prior to the race though. He lost a battle with the Jamaican team sprint coach. He wanted to lead off the race, figuring he was the perfect man to provide the Jamaicans with a lead. His coach fiddled with the order, leading off with the unheralded Carter, having Bolt run third and Powell, the former world record holder, run anchor.
Asafa also ran an excelent anchor leg last year in Osaka. I am really happy for him.
Asafa did that as well but Gay beat him.
I am not sure if anyone noticed but JAM team came 8th in that race as well.
Just watched it on tv. Wow. Asafa was choppin. Congrats to the Jamaicans on everything
I have 8.60 give or take a couple hundredths for Asafa’s leg (100m start line to finish). That’s using one of those fancy computer things and NBC TV feed.
You sure? This shows him 8.9 seconds away from 37.10.
Yea I’m sure (8.60 give or take)…only been doing this stuff a minute;) Those TV clocks aren’t reliable. Note the same frame, different TV station, different time. Don’t believe the hype.
Well I timed it on the video (instead of paying any attention to the TV clock). I get high 8.6s. Fast!
I also get Bolt at around 9 flat, even with that slow-down leading up to Powell.
Edit:
This makes me think Asafa is currently in shape to run low 9.7s. That last leg time was horrific!
For those that will argue that the 100m start line isn’t the 100m to go mark in the relay, how about 7.61 for the last 90m.
did you see japan running around like crazy in the background hehehehe. THey were thinking “holy shit, we got bronze baby”
8.76, counted on virtualdub, from the 100m mark
