My ex coach said me that Vittori began to train him when Menna’s record was about 20"50. I don’t remember coach’s name before Vittori’s period.
But Mennea worked with Vittori prior to the Munich Olympics 72 ?
Did Mennea have trainingpartners?
Tomorrow I will make question to my coach (he 's trained by Vittori too), and I’ll ask your question however Mennea for 10 years was trained in Formia (centro federale atletica italiana), in the morning he was train, after physioteraphist, eat, train in the afternoon (very very long), he eat and the evening he went to bed very early. All that for 10 years!!! Incredible!
I first met Vittori when he was with Mennea in Sardinia in 1971 and he had coached him when he ran the 20.50 or so at the European championships just prior to that. I don’t know about anyone else before that.
the Pigmalion was prof.Alberto Autorino, but his first important coach was prof.Francesco Mascolo (but I don’t know about his template)
Mascolo!!! This is the name! Thanks Des… Tomorrow or among 2 days i’ll can say more!!
However I tell you an anecdote about Mennea-Vittori that my ex-coach said me.
Mennea was in Formia and he must prepared an important match.
Mennea’s girlfriend she wanted see him…
When she was in airport so happy and ready to embrace his love… There was Vittori that wait for her.
Vittori very very kindly did to leave Formia at this girl and all that without Mennea allowed (he didn’t know nothing because it was a surprise, en fact Vittori how did know that?? )
I don’t know if that’s true… But who tell me this story, he was in Formia in that moment…
Did Autorino and mascolo use similar programms as Vittori did later, or did Mennea have to change his training under vittori ?
Are there any Italian Sprinters who train/ed with similar programms ?
I don’t know but I think that vittori’s way was original; mennea didn’t train in the same way before! of course there is “italian sprint school”, a model for all italian coach and it’s based on vittori’s idea.
now you can find some “indipendent”, but in '80s
and '90s vittori was “the only way” for training sprinters
Did Tilli, Cavallaro, Torreri, Collio, or even Besozzi work with similar programms ?
Besozzi maybe is the only to not work with Vittori’s plan.
I don’t know Torrieri’s program.
Tilli, in the end of his career, changed training phylosophy, but before…he used the usuall plan…
Howe is trained by his mother…however I do not know her style…just know that she had him do overspeed 2 days before world champs, he got injuried underperformed…also…recently he jumped 8,26 on long jump hope everything start to come togheter for mih…amazing talent…(at 16 he jumped longer than carl lewis…and was faster…)
Di Mulo is a fan of Vittori…
look at his articles that i posted
PS: when tilli changed his programs he made his best performances
near a 40 years old…
I know also that Cavallaro some year ago changed coach from Di Mulo to Tilli. Now is always part of Di Mulo’s team.
i think in 2002
Licciardello (Di Mulo’s boy) 20 years old. 45"59!!!
Vabo and simone…look at the videos on dimulo’s team website…I posted some comments…
Vittori wrote an article for New Studies (6:1;35-46, 1991) titled " The Development and Training of Young 400 Meter Runners."
It seems much more reasonable in it’s approach than Mennea’s training which is outlined in “come devi allenarti.” It may be reasonable to conclude that Di Mulo has followed this apporach with Licciardello.
Keep in mind the era in which Mennea was succesful. Training such as thi sis no longer possible even for the truly gifted.
Does anyone have specific examples of what would be considered “normal” for an Italian 400 hurdler and what Mori was forced to eliminate?
BTW, Eddie Ottoz came to USA and spoke some years ago. He seems to share some of the same ideas as Vittori.
what’s the link?
