Is Ultrasound Necessary?

I strained my right lower outside hamstring on August 7, 2007. Nothing major, so I took a few days off. Then I tried to play basketball and then I messed it up even more over the weeks. So then I did complete rest and have been seeing a Chinese accupuncture/deep tissue massage guy since September. I also do EMS in pulse mode to get blood flowing.

But even with treatment and complete rest for 2 months or so, my hamstring was still messed up. So I figured, ok I will do what I can to maintain fitness and not aggravate it.

So for the last 6 weeks I have been doing short hill accelerations, deep squats, and really concentrated on bench press. The hills and deep squats seem to put less load on my lower hamstring, though the spot is still restrictive. So my hamstring is still not 100%. It is hard to tell if it is still getting better.

I’m wondering if I need to see a different therapist, someone who has ultrasound that can “get at” the scar tissue where fingers cannot.

So what do people think? Do I need to just be patient as it can take many treatments to get at all the scar tissue? This injury is going on 4 months now for a once minor injury.

Or is ultrasound necessary for something like this?

The guy I’m seeing has actually been successful in aiding my recovery from two other of these hamstring strains. And he is a family friend so I don’t have to pay. This is why I have a dilemma.

yes?

no?

power clean?

your going to need manual theraphy to realign the collogen etc. A few good massages should do it.

Ultrasound is good, but I’d use it after some sessions of manual therapy.

It is not necessary
