This was an important point I was alluding to back then…you can’t full recruit if you don’t 1) lift maximal weights, 2) lift submaximal weights at 100% velocity, or 3) lift to failure.
Lifting submaximal weight at 100% velocity does great things for power, but not max strength. Lifting submaximal weights at submaximal velocities for reps short of failure will do very little unless volume/frequency is quite high, which will interfere with other training. Lifting maximal weights short of failure seems to accomplish everything you want and avoids things you don’t, as Charlie said.
