Europe gets it right with speed limits - and TV…imagine turning on ESPN and seeing HSI members instructing you on how to run properly all day long after every show…anyhow that’s what’s going on in Europe this summer, and here’s the link to the clips http://www.eurosport.com/home/pages/V3/L0/S6/E5821/multimedia_Lng0_Spo6_Evt5821.shtml
Haha, if you can get past the “one hand on it” (how appropriate) comment from Drummond in the intro its really good. I thought Ato’s 200m was very interesting and made great sense to me. I wish the damn things were downloadable though.
Yea, John Smith was easy on Angela Williams to me it seems like he wanted to say “Look girl you’re trippin, do it over and over and over until you do it right I tired of you sprinting that way”
I think his approach as far as coaching Angela is going ok, she must understand it’s a new system for her… I can tell she’s frustrated.
What was that Inger running a 300 m time trial? In 38.3 that’s fast for her I believe… That’s what? a 22.5 200 m in comp?
Yea that’s a good piece

Are the problems that John points out so true that USC couldn’t make the necessary corrections during the prior years?
Kenny,
good observation about inger running that 300. I wonder how many she was doing with how much recvoery. 38 seconds isnt anything special… definatly not a 22.5.
According to the mercier calcualtor which as right on the money pretty much for me… says my 35.9 in training is equal to a 22.3 for a 200. I ran the 200 twice this summer after not competeing all year… i ran 22.0 and just tonite ran 22.3. True if i ran the 300 in a meet situtation i would have gone a little faster but my best 300 indoors was 36.18 FAT. So this was pretty close to a P.R. 300 for me even though it was outdoors and in training.
A 38.3 is only equal to about a 23.7 but give or take say 23.5.
Id like to know what Mo was running, he was running 16.x for something? 150’s 160’s? who knows.

You’re kidding right! 22.5 is what she can probably run for 1-2 months per year if she’s lucky. We are observing early training where they are just getting into speed. I would be very pleased with a low 38 at this stage.
Sprinting is not about running a PB every training session. Its about building to achieve the PB when it counts.
Watching that video, I think Smith has really got his work cut out for him with Angela Williams.
I don’t think USC makes “corrections”. They seem to just work with what they get and get the athlete to win, without really considering their future. They seem to be very good at this and being hard nosed, its what the coach should be focussing on. Certainly makes their life easier. It could take two years just to get the athlete to begin to realise the gains that the corrections could make, in this time, they could have lost more than a few championships. What would you do? Just playing devil’s advocate.
DCW,
what i was trying to say is that a 38.3 is not equal to a 22.5. that is all. Kenny simply thought that running a 300 in 38 was equal to that.
Inger has a 21.7 under her belt… I’m sure 38.3 is a cake walk for her… Right now I think her best this year is 23.01… I have to check on that tho…
I wonder what Angela & Torri posted in their 300’s?
Anyone here have results…
From the looks I think those training sessions were back in November…

I do understand the point. However, with the possible exception of last year’s NCAA, Angela pretty much had her way.
Adaptations can be difficult and require patience in huge chunks. However, the longer the athlete remains with some degree of deficiency (in this case, biomechanics?), the more difficult for improvement in that area. Particularly, when they have had good success doing it one way! From a mental standpoint, we can only imagine how this must play with her.
Ironically, she doesn’t appear to be that far off from the absolute top world rankers, despite the flaws that remain to-date. The question may be this: How far can she go where the emphasis is not on upper, and possibly even lower limb rotational re-tooling?
And what of Allyson Felix? We’ve seen her brother quite a few times this spring at USC. Though gifted genetically, work emphasizing rotational improvements, could have long range benefits. Perhaps this is being addressed.
On the other hand, roll up the points.
I don’t think that Inger has come close to that 21.7(21.79?) since worlds of 99.
Does anybody know the exact height of the boxes Ato is jumping onto with both legs?
Inger Miller ran 22.67 (her best since 2000) at the USATF Trials in June. Word is that inger will take Gail’s spot in the 100m for the USA with Gail concerntrating on the hurdles. But I’m guessing Gail will be questioning that move after seeing the standard of the 100m at the moment and seeing that if she dropped a 10.90 in the final she could well win.
