to be hungry doesnt mean that your stomach is empty. To be hungry is a question of insuline and many other hormon-levels that are responsible for breaking the nutrients down.
(great system by the way, or? )
It is often said, that veggies and so on are sooner out of “the stomach-system”(i try to be short…).
The real absorption is done in the bowel as far as i know…
In terms of supplementing (i.e. ZMA) now:
The “safest” way to have an “empty stomach”(we wanna reach the quickest absortion) is to take the supplements in the morning, or?
But: If i wanna supplement like this:
ZMA before bed
Arginin before trainining
glutamine after training
liquid Aminos in between high int work(with sth that causes high insuline reaction)
So, how can i reach the best status for an good absortion, especially for ZMA before bed???
Is there any hint that my “stomach is empty”. Is there sth like a rule(i.e. tuna needs 5h and so on)?
Is there a connection between hunger and an empty stomach(I dont think it has to be like that).
Trainining should be with an empty stomach(also good for the arginine supplementation), but for sure without hunger(–> suger level too low!!!)
lol good luck getting a completely empty stomach before training if you live a normal life. That isn’t going to happen, or at least, it may not be in your stomach, but it definitely won’t be completed digested. You need some pre-workout nutrition to perform well. Liquid form can be good for this.
I’d say wait 30-45 minutes after whatever you eat to take your ZMA. Maybe 1hr if you really want to be cautious.
it all depends on the type of food. carbs are digested right away, protein and fats need hours. A big mac can take a week before being fully digested. I usually eat every two hours becasue thats when i feel hungry again so 2 hours before i workout i eat a meal. That may be a little bit excessive for some but it works for me.
The zma needs need to be taken at leat an hour after any calcium.
I think we must make clear that we arent talking about the emptx stomach.
We have to talk about the point when meals are absorbed at its best…
Here is an answer from Barry Sears(the guru of insuline and hormone/food relations)…
Hello,
Thank you for your e-mail.
Dr. Sears does not believe that any supplements should be taken on an empty stomach. He strongly suggests to take supplements with food to improve absorption.
He also suggests have a Zone snack before and after an workout session. This is the only way to maintain healthy insulin levels throughout the day.
Zinc does not absorb well with calcium. You are taking what he said out of context. In general, it is good to take most supplements with food, but in the case of zinc based supplements, you are probably not going to have as good of absorption as you would like because of it competing with other minerals.
If i remember correctly, and please correct me if im wrong but calcium and magnesium fight for absorbtion. So if consume calcium you will not get optimal levels of magnesium absorbtion. Check the threads on zma and it will say why.
Forget about taking supplements on an empty stomach
The only time your stomach may be empty is possibly first thing in the am after an 8 hr fast.
The rest of the time there is almost certainly food in the stomach. Just wait 30 mins post eating for taking supplements if you want or 15 mins directly before eating.
Essentailly it is impossible so forget about being hung up on it.
