H.S. State Qualifying Distances

Hey everybody, I would like to know the qualifying distances for other states around the country. I’m up here in PA, and i know that the sprints and jumps are a little weak here compared to the throws, but here the state qualifier is 21’6". I have hit it a couple times but not consistently. I just want to know how the distances are compared to others states.

i think my school is division one and state qualifying in Massachusetts is only 19 feet

Page 5 has all of the standards.

wow, there is the big difference i thought there was going to be…i forgot to say that the 21’6" qualifier is for AA (about 180 kids per class), but for AAA and AAAA it is 21’9"

Wow, those times are so nasty. I remember looking at the VA state rankings and top 25 had all run under 11.00 e. I’m not sure if they were seeded times (made up times) or not. A kid down the street from me at Henrico hs, no coach, bad area, ran 10.49. I went down to check out the practice one time. Then I realized there was no practice. It really is amazing what some of these hs kids can do. For all the talk against these terrible hs coaches lol. (Lets all think about this). There have been some hs guys in the US that have run some really nasty times. Remember John Muir hs with the 4x100A 1st at nationals…4x100B second. I mean are you serious. Just think about this… Casey Combest, a white man from Kentucky, never lifted a weight in his life, at age 18 would only lose to ben by 2.5 meters in the 60m.

Too bad most of the really talented guys from bad/poor areas have “other” priorities. How about Houston McTear if you want to talk about amazing high school guys that drop off the face of the earth because of other things entice them.

john muir was an all star team. don’t kid yourself.

edit: sultan mucclougah(their big 100-200 gun)'s dad ran for SJSU back in the speed city days, so if he was involved in the program they were probably better off than alot of college teams at the time.

double edit: to anwser the OP: we have no at large qualifiers here but the last qualifiers in the jumps were:

16 33’6 and 20’9 39’10 a bad system of regional allignments and no true state meet like Califorina, NJ or the northeast is to blame for those marks though. i swear my state isn’t as bad as those marks reflect.

Casey also never amounted to a single thing after high school, due to certain life choices etcetera.

Florida does not have those, you have to advance through a district, and a region to get to state. You have to be either the top 3 or top 4 finisher in each event. I’ll post just from the region I ran in in HS and coached in. I’ll psot state as well.
