Guevara and Campbell for Carson
Friday 21 April 2006
Mexico’s Ana Guevara, the 2003 World 400m champion and 2004 Olympic 200m gold medallist Veronica Campbell of Jamaica, have joined the roster of top international athletes set to compete in the adidas Track Classic in Carson, California on 21 May.

Guevara, 29, is a three-time World Championships medallist, adding a bronze in 2005 to her gold from 2003, and her bronze in 2001. The Mexican national icon, who also owns a silver medal from the 2004 Olympics last competed here in 2003, and proved to be a crowd favourite.

A triple medallist in Athens (200m and 4x100m gold, 100m bronze), Campbell took the silver medal over 100m at the 2005 World Championships, and fourth place in the 200m, during a season hampered by injury. Last month the 23-year-old took second place at the Commonwealth Games. Her winning time of 22.05 with which she took her 200m victory in Athens 2004 was the fastest in the world for that year, and no woman has run faster in the last five years.

Also added to the dozens of Olympic and World Championship stars aligned to compete are Alistair Cragg of Ireland, the 2005 European Indoor 3000m champion, and Omar Brown of Jamaica, the 2006 Commonwealth Games 200m gold medallist.
