I have been searching the forums and the archives on GPP and basketball. I haven’t been able to find any sample programs to get ideas from. If you guys have or know of any, please point me in the right direction.
It seems from the posts I have read, that basketball players need to do a good bit of tempo work, change of direction/agility drills, and work on acceleration. Volumes, etc. would be tailored to the individual. (weights and plyos would also be included)
I don’t think Charlie is an advocate of change of dierction/agility drills. I believe the reasoning behind this is because the athletes get enough of it during games and practice. By “enough” I mean they get sufficient amounts that any more volume with change of direction has a negative effect of tendons and ligaments in the joints. I am not 100% sure if this is Charlie’s reasoning, but I do know he is not an advocate.
How long of a GPP are we talking about here? What level of athlete’s are we dealing with? Give us as much details as you can and we’ll get back to you with an equal amount of detail.
In regards to individual volumes, are you dealing with individuals or a team? Are you in control of everything the athletes do, or just the strength and conditioning?
