Last week-end Miss Krasnomovets did 66.31 for 500m (WIB) and 36.30 at 300m. She may be the Russian quarter-miler of the indoor season with a 50sec performance. Let’s hope she will maintain form through outdoor as well, unlike Nazarova (former 500m WIB holder).
PS: Is Nazarova in disgrace since you have put her off your avatar?

Wow! This is a huge PB, or not??
And who’s Olga Zaitseva, who came 2nd in 1:06:95? Are these her PBs: 23.04 & 50.06? I can’t recall her…

"First season’s meeting in CSKA
13.01.2006

This season’s first meeting, the Christmas Cup, was held on 12 January in Moscow’s CSKA Indoor Area. World Indoor Champion Natalya Nazarova pleased the spectators having won the 500 meters with perfect time of 1:07.79 minutes.

Kseniya Zadorina ran up with 1:08.94, bettering her own World Junior best by more than 1 second ( ). But other 400-meters stars decided to run a shorter distance, the 300 meters, what seemed to answer the current purposes of preparing to the season’s main meetings.

Natalya Antyukh beat Tatyana Levina by a finish spurt. Both of them set personal best, 36.79 and 36.87 correspondingly."

Although Natalya’s time on Thursday is slower vs. that of Krasnomovets (and at least two others by the looks of it -Zaitseva and Kotliarova!), it’s not far away from her PB (1:07:36, Jan. 8, 2004); things are looking good ( ). Don’t underestimate the heart of a champion!

A 49.65 outdoors is not bad at all (2004) (and better vs. Krasnomovets 50.19). Bad timing though? Yes… (a fortnight before the Olympics :frowning: )

As we’ve discussed before, they seem to have a “problem” for their level and depth in the event and Krasnomovets’ and others’ times like these point to part of the problem at least (?)

I am not bothered with either of them and they don’t seem to mind each other either! (see photo  )

In demonstration of my preference and in protest to your comment though, Natalya is reinstated!

Yep, details for those who can read it…

Except for the short sprints the Russian girls rule athletics.

Well done for Natalya!

There are some changes now in the all-time World lists:

1:06.31 Olesya Krasnomovets RUS Yekaterinburg 07Jan06
1:06.76 Olga Zaytseva RUS Yekaterinburg 07Jan06
1:07.36 Natalya Nazarova RUS Moskva 07Jan04
1:07.67 Olga Nazarova URS Moskva 10Jan88
1:07.68 Olga Kotlyarova RUS Moskva 07Jan04
1:08.6 Anna Ambraziene URS Vilnius 30Jan88
1:08.63 Sandra Seuser GER Berlin 09Jan93
1:08.71 Jearl Miles-Clark USA State College 31Jan04
1:08.82 Joetta Clark USA Boston 30Jan88
1:08.86 Marina Kharlamova URS Moskva 15Feb87

Zaytseva, 21 years old, is the new comer in the 400m Russian team, she’s the u23 European Champion in 2005.

Along with a few others:
Yelena Migunova, 51.82 (H) and 51.59 (Final, 3rd) [and
Anastasiya Ovchinnikova, 52.53 (H) and 52.24 (Final, 4th)].

We’ll see who survives! :stuck_out_tongue:

PS are you sure about Kotlyarova’s time?

Yes i’ve checked her time. Kotlyarova is one of my fav and was pleased by her move to 800m. It also prove the point of speed specificity because she’s not the fastest in the last straight of the 800m races!

Will she stay with 800 m, do you know? The 1:57:55 is very good in such a short period of time (mainly 2005)!
[She did a 1:07:74 in the same race with Krasnomovets…]

I see no reason to move back to 400m and 67.74 is not enough to make such a decision. Also there’s much more to gain at 800m, since the 400m is very busy with Sanya Richards and TWD (although i feel that TWD will progressively fade like Guevara did).

In Russia perhaps there is less competition in 800 m vs. 400 m for her and from now on with youngsters always coming thick and fast in the sprint, although Adrianova, Tsyganova, Chzhao and the rest may object on this!

As for 400 m, you have to overcome national competition first in Russia before you think of anything else and this isn’t easy over there! As an example from 2005 season top lists:

For 400 m:
1 Svetlana Pospelova 49,80/ 1 f 11.07.05 Tula
2 Olga Zaitseva 50,06/ 1 f 14.06.05 Tula
3 Tatiana Firova 50,41/ 1 f 23.07.05 Tula
4 Natalia Antiukh 50,67/ 1 f 18.06.05 Florence
5 Olesia Zykina 50,73/ 3 sf3 08.08.05 Helsinki
6 Olesia Krasnomovets 50,77/ 1 fA 29.08.05 Dubnica nad Vahom
7 Maria Lisnichenko 50,84/ 2 f 26.05.05 Sochi
8 Yelena Migunova 50,93/ 2 f 14.06.05 Tula
9 Anastasia Ovchinnikova 51,10/ 3 f 14.06.05 Tula
10 Natalia Nazarova 51,31/ 1 f 17.08.05 Izmir -no comments on this one ( :frowning: )

And for 800 m:
1 Tatiana Andrianova 1.56,07/ 1 f 11.07.05 Tula
2 Svetlana Cherkasova 1.56,93/ 1 f2 24.06.05 Kazan
3 Larisa Chzhao 1.57,33/ 2 f 11.07.05 Tula
4 Svetlana Kliuka 1.57,35/ 3 f 11.07.05 Tula
5 Olga Kotliarova 1.57,55/ 2 f 29.07.05 Oslo
6 Natalia Lavshuk 1.58,72/ 5 f2 25.06.05 Kazan
7 Natalia Tsyganova 2.00,26/ 6 f 11.07.05 Tula
8 Natalia Yevdokimova 2.00,34/ 1 f 04.09.05 Moscow
9 Yelena Soboleva 2.00,59/ 2 f 16.08.05 Tallinn
10 Irina Vashentseva 2.00,64/ 4 f 04.06.05 Sevilla

More news on 25th Jan.

Any specific reasons for saying this apart from the “obvious” last season?
Thanks!

TWD had a very successful 2004 Olympuc season, but very tiring, after Athens she was dead and the GPF race was terrible for her, she asked a lot to her body. 2005 campaign was again very busy and i wonder how long she will maintain this. A little drop in performance as been shown last year, and i think it will continue in 2006. She’s still a tough girl who won the 2005 title in very difficult conditions and beating Sanya Richards who was in better shape.
