IAAF GL JACKPOT 2006 – WHO IS SET TO WIN WHAT!
30 August 2006
Monte-Carlo - Next Sunday (3 Sep) the six meeting series of the IAAF Golden League 2006 concludes in Berlin’s Olympic stadium with the DKB-ISTAF Berlin, the 65th anniversary of this famous one-day German festival of athletics.
In terms of the $1 Million IAAF Golden League Jackpot, with five meetings worked out, four athletes have already secured five Golden League victories in 2006 - Asafa Powell (100m), Jeremy Wariner (400m), Sanya Richards (women’s 400m), and Tirunesh Dibaba (women’s 5000m) - and so have acquired a slice of a $500,000 purse. In Berlin they will try and snatch something from an ADDITIONAL pot of $500,000 which is on offer for those achieving a perfect series of six wins.
Two other athletes, Kenenisa Bekele (5000m) and Irving Saladino (LJ), have completed four wins this Golden League summer, and should they also be victorious in Berlin will take a share of the first $500,000 which is already split four-ways.
NB. Jackpot winners must* compete at the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart on 9 – 10 September 2006 to be eligible for their prize.
