Well, I’m back. Took off for, let’s see, five months? It’s good to be back. As you can probably guess I’m way out of shape. No strength, no endurance, nada, zip. So, as I just turned 20 I feel it’s time to get back into the game.
As of now, so I can get back into shape, I’m just doing body weight workouts. Pushups, dips, pull ups, box jumps, etc.
What I’m going to be doing for the next month is fairly repetative. Monday threw Saturday I’m going to be doing near the same thing, just more or less depending on the day.
Here it is:
Stretch for 10-15 minutes. Just legs.
After stretch, I do as many crunches as I can in 5 minutes. (Not so many at the time)
Once that is done, I walk over to the other side of the gym and do a small circuit.
10 close grip pushups, 10 decline situps, 10 triceps dips (Do that two more times just widen my hands each time I do the pushups)
Rest 10 sec between work and 1 min b/w sets
Then go to the pull up machine that has 4 grip positions. Do five on each handle. 45 sec rest
After that I do 14 lunges (7 each leg) 10 leg lifts for the abs and 10 box jumps that is a little higher than my thigh. (Do all that 2 times with 3 lbs ankle weights)
It is a pretty good workout for conditioning. It typically lasts for 30-40 minutes. I recall that on Tues when I started I couldn’t do 8 pushups! lol. messed up, i know. But in just 4 days I can already do twenty fairly easily.
I promised myself two years ago I will never stop training cause I hate the return so much. Vomiting on sessions that used to be standard is great. Good luck with it.
Yesterday I only got 6 hours of sleep, compared to a normal 8. The workout was hard but I still managed to push through.
As I was doing box jumps with the weights my lungs were working overtime. Since I had the pneumonia my body seems to have gone into shock, like it can’t stand to do anything straineous. But, still, I did it. I was panting like a dog in the middle of the summer.
Lol, but anyway, it was a decent workout. Not to shabby for somebody who hasn’t worked out in 5 months.
Well, yesterday was a pretty decent workout. I wasn’t able to do half of the workout because of type constraints.
But I got a question… As I was laying down, the muscles between my shoulder and my chest started to hurt. I can’t tell if it’s a pull or if it just isn’t strong right now. Can anybody give a reason it could be hurting
Another is my breathing. As I sit here typing I have to take deep breaths in order to… have a better breathing pattern? I’m not sure if thats the best way to describe it. But it did start after I overcame the pnuemonia. Is it that my lungs just aren’t as strong as before? Should I start doing some light cardio to help it?
I know I should see a doc but at the moment Ive just been busy. I really do want to go because it annoys the hell out of me.
I’ll try to describe it a little more. It normally happens at night. Throughout the whole day my breathing is pretty good, barely have to take any irregular type of breath. But when I’m on my bed, like right now, it seems that I have to take a deeper breath. And when I take that deep breath, at the very end of the inhale it makes this real quiet whisp noise (I dont know if whisp is the right word.
But, true, I am out of shape. I have been doing a fair bit of body weight work. When I do my lunge, leg lift, box jumo circuit, I end up breathing pretty heavy. But after a couple of minutes my breathing starts to regulate.
Any more ideas?
Thanks
*Edit
Also forgot to mention, has anybody ever yawned half way? Like, if you yawn, it doesn’t complete itself? It’s weird. I really dont know how to describe it. :o
Was relatively easy. Have noticed that my body strength has increased.
Tuesday
300 meter warmup jog
stretched 10 minutes
four 200m runs at tempo. with 200m walk back as rest.
light jog cool down
stretch
It was of course hard b/c I haven’t ran in many, many months.
I think what my problem was with my lungs was due to alergies! Lol, and it really only happens when im laying down on my back with my head slightly elevated
15 wide pushups-> 10 tricep dips -> 5 pull ups
Rest about 5 min then
2 diamond, 2 reg, 2 wide, 2 reg, 2 diamond pushups. I alternated those and did around twenty. -> To many dips -> to many pull ups
Tuesday
4x200 with a 200 walk as rest. Did each 200 around 30-35 sec. (remember, no endurance yet)
Thursday
4x300 with a 300 walk as rest. Did not time. Was to focused on trying to complete the runs. I believe it took me total, with my warm up, stretch, cool down, and stretch, of around 45-55 min?
Woopdy freakin dooh. My lungs were burning today. Not so fun.
The reason why I suggested to see your doctor is that your symptoms may indicate a heart condition. What you describe sounds like Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea to me, which can, among other things, indicate heart failure or other serious heart conditions.
Seeing as that might be a problem, what should I ask my doc. I looked up what it was, the paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea , and it described some of the symptoms I have. (Like feeling fine when stading, but when lying down need to be elevated.) And I think this all started after my pnuemonia(!) Is there anything else I should know or do? What kindd of questions should I ask my doc? Any kind of self help things I could do?
Would jogging help, or should I stop that?
Thanks for the info. It opened my eyes a little.
P.S. What are some dangers of paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea?
PND stands for paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea. This is not really a diagnosis but a description of a pattern of symptoms. It means there are episodes of shortness of breath occurring mostly at night. They can be of sudden onset and make the patient very short of breath, and they sound wheezy and find it difficult to breath. It may be accompanied by chest pain and sweating. It is also sometimes called cardiac asthma, but it is nothing to do with ordinary asthma.
The cause of these symptoms is a sudden build-up of fluid in the lungs. This is usually due to excessive strain on the left side of the heart, so is a form of heart failure. Don’t let that term alarm you too much, because it can be treated. The strain on the heart can be caused by things like raised blood pressure, a previous heart attack, or hardening of the arteries and angina.
The acute symptoms can be treated with diuretics, they are drugs that promote rapid fluid loss and clear the fluid from the lungs. Once this is under control, there are other drugs that can be added to the diuretics, like digoxin and ACE inhibitors, that can improve the heart’s action. Patients often do very well on these treatments and can live a virtually normal life for years, provided there are no other things wrong and their general health is otherwise OK.
I do hope your father responds well to treatment and is no longer having his attacks of PND.
Well, had to wait an hour to see him, appointment was at 1030 and it was after 1130 before I saw him,
Ok… had a chest xray, was clean of pnuemonia. Heart looked pretty good.
Had a test that told you how good oxygen was circulating, that came up ok.
Then I had an EKG. My heart is doing good.
What was it? I asked him… His answer, stress!
I asked him about the DNP, he said that couldn’t be the case because my heart is doing ok. Something about me being stressed makes my muscles tense up and makes my body “forget” to breath. This in turn makes me feel like I am not getting enough oxygen. Stress is my enemy!
He told me to do more arobic things like swimming and biking. I said I’ve begun jogging a little, he said to do more.
I’m glad to hear that nothing seems to be majorly wrong with your heart and lungs. Nevertheless, if these problems persist, I would suggest to get a second opinion.
