Gambetta

Feedback on Vern Gambetta please …

Is he in the SPARQ, Boyle, Versteghen functional mindset?

I recently heard from a guy who played in the White Sox organization back in the early 90’s(in Sarasota, Florida) and he said Vern told the players present one day(during a training session) that he was Ben Johnson’s coach. No joke.

I have watched on of his tapes. It was all sled dragging and change of direction drills attached to bungees. I wasn’t impressed.

The basketball coach at my university said Gambette came up to Canada to do a clinic, and proceeded to tell everyone he was the head strength and conditioning coach for Chicago Bulls. Needless to say, Al Vermeil was not impressed.

This seems to be a pattern for Gamboosler. Obviously he feels inaqequate and has to make up stuff to convince people that he actually knows something.

I heard he was good friends with Dan Pfaff. Why not just play on this association? Seems a little strange to me. The only thing i can guess is that he has done some work with Ben and the Bulls (in whatever minor role) otherwise there are some serious issues going on here…

He’s been mainly a soccer guy lately. Haven’t heard any of those stories but he still gets a lot of respect from many good coaches and not so much from others. Again, it depends on who you talk to (I still remember CP’s criticisms of him in 2000-2001; he would just rip him every chance he would get). Coach Boyle has always been the standard I hold the functional guys up to. He’s a strength coach who’s interested in performance and function, not FUN-ction (where your athletes play games in the weight room all day because you can’t make them stronger and more powerful). I think Coach Boyle and Verstegen are legit so I wouldn’t throw them in with some of those SPARQ coaches. The SPARQ people reference these coaches (Boyle, Verstegen) because they’re successful. Bottom Line.

I heard the Bulls ‘story’ so that’s why I ask.

Him too?

I wonder who hasn’t used that claim!!!

Another self promoter who attached his name during my self-imposed silence. He’s never met Ben but that shouldn’t be hard to figure out. Ben performed well.

I know that to be a fact. Al Vermiel called me up to complain about it and, in fact, Al went after Basketball Canada damanding an explanation but they started ducking his calls.

Never worked with Ben- that’s a flat out lie.
He did work for Al Vermiel as an assistant for a short time, and used the opportunity to manouver his way into the White Sox, which also used Al up to that time.
You’d need to speak to someone in Sox management for a critique of his stay there.

This field is a joke sometimes!! Unbelievable! What can you say? I think some coaches are border lining delusional.

If you are a coach with a good program, you will have real results with real people! YOUR OWN PEOPLE. You won’t have any need to attach your name to other peoples’ work.

Lets have a new Forum here, where words like these are always on the first page…not even with any educational purpose, just to remind ourselves: CHARLIE´S MEMORABLE QUOTES.

Boyle is starting to sound more and more like CP every day.
