good vids, enjoy…
Agreed! Clinics like these will greatly enhance the country’s developmental program. It’s just a matter of time before jamaica starts spitting out Asafas, Bolts on Frasiers on the regular!!!
BIG UPS J.A.!!!..
…Too bad for the “poor” english it’s very difficult for me to follow what the coach explain:cool:
It’s good to see basic sprint principles expounded upon. I am curious as to what seems to be the problem with Powell and his groin - warmup issue? And Darrell Brown during the games - hydration?
I would think a bit about that. I like basic stretches as a reference before races- not to really stretch, because, if you’re loose, you won’t really stretch anything anyway, but to see what the ROM is.
Is it exactly where it normally is or not?? If it’s not, some more drills or exercises, then check again.
Brown fell down while practicing blocks before the heats in the warm-up pitch, he seemed ok during the first round but that was submax race, he didn’t survived to the 2nd warm-up of the day and walked through the second round.
Thanks PJ. Appreciate the correction re. Brown.
With flexion as well as extension?
I with the legs when the knee is bent you are stretching only the muscles that cross the hip. When the knee is straight you are stretching the bi articular muscles that cross the hip and the knee. So i guess you can use both to check the ROM of different muscle groups. This is what is done in the Thomas test.
Hasn’t Brown always been dealing with hamstring inuries?
It reminds me Allan Wells’ warm up.
Stephen’s presentation is similar to what I’d expect if I gave some high school kid down the street half of Training for Speed and told him to go run their warmup. Looked like more of an infomercial for drinking bottled water than anything.
Another note. There is a local (cold weather) coach (quite good) who implemented the idea presented here of exclusive static stretching before work. He crippled like 8 of his ~12 speed power athletes (breaking my record). He switched back to static stretching (“just put your head to your knee”) the next year and had maybe 1 problem. Any advice Stephen gives must be put into its proper context (ie: tropical climate).
