Caught (a replay of ) the last part of the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo on the Eurosport cable TV channel last night. The rain bucketed down during the men’s 100m.

Lewis-Francis’s break was very slight and whilst he was clearly agitated & protested his innocence, the slow motion replay showed he definitely broke. He wasn’t happy and after the race was concluded, he placed his hand on the TV camera lens to indicate he did not want to be filmed.

According to the commentators it was the second time in four days. Lewis-Francis had been DQ’ed for breaking.

Very solid last 30m by Churandy, he ran over the top of them and ran away a convincing winner. Kimmons got away very well in lane 3 and appeared to be leading at the 60m. I felt Pickering was disadvantaged by the Lewis-Francis (lane 2) break as it left him alone in lane 1 and he was clearly smashed at the start by Kimmons. From there it appeared Pickering struggled with the conditions and the further he went the worse he went.

Carmelita Jeter looked extremely strong and fit and was never seriously challenged. I know its only early days but it’s hard to see her getting beat any time soon.

The women’s 200m was interesting for the finish by Cydonie Mothersille. She collapsed a few metres after crossing the line. She looked distressed and it appeared to take some time for the medics to bring her to her feet. The commentators suggested she got a spike stuck in the track and fell down but it appeared like she just passed out as she didn’t move until people came to her assistance. Once up and walking around she seemed OK.

Empty lane or not, that time wouldn’t have won d3 nationals.
