Dunn racing on grass

Port-of-Spain;Trinidad:

World 400m indoor champion Debbie Dunn opens her 2010 outdoor season on grass at this weekend’s Southern Games to be held at Guaracara Park. The meet is over two days, Saturday and Sunday (Mar 20-21).

Dunn, who won the women’s 400m at the World Indoor Championships in Doha, running 51.04, will contest the women’s 200m on Sunday.

LaVerne Jones-Ferrette of the US Virgin Islands, who was second to Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown in the World Indoor 60m, will also be in action. Jones-Ferrette will face Ashley Owen, United States’ 2004 World Junior 100 champion in the women’s 100m, set for Saturday’s opening day.

Jamaican James Beckford, long jump silver medallist from the Atlanta Olympic in 1996, will contest the men’s 100m and his pet event.

Jamaicans Xavier Brown, Kemoy Campbell and Janice Daley are also down to compete.
