[LEFT]On Friday 12 June, The Olympic Museum hosted a Chinese delegation on a visit to offer the giant Dreams of Olympics painting by Chinese artist Zunwu Wang. The artist and his wife were accompanied by Mengjie Liu, Assistant to the Chairman of the Bridge Art Centre in Beijing, and Jiayi Qu, Director of the Art Department at the Bridge Art Centre. They were welcomed by IOC President Jacques Rogge, Mrs Rogge and Olympic Museum Director Francis Gabet.[/LEFT]
[LEFT]The 380 x 270 cm painting donated to the Museum includes the figures of Jacques Rogge and Qi Liu, President of the Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing, together with the well-known Chinese basketball player Ming Yao, four-time Olympic table tennis champion Yaping Deng, and Xiang Liu, Olympic 110m hurdles champion at the 2004 Games in Athens. The work is part of a themed series that Zunwu Wang has been working on recently. The works President Mao walking and The Motherland are also part of the series.
Zunwu Wang is a professional artist born in 1941 in Shandong province. He graduated from the ChongZhen Academy of Fine Arts before becoming a professional painter in the 1960s. [/LEFT]
[LEFT]During the last 40 years, in pursuit of his dream the artist has worked entirely on portraits, painting more than a thousand. He has also founded a class to study painting techniques. In 2008, Zunwu Wang signed a contract with the Beijing Bridge Art Centre and, at present, is working on a large historical fresco entitled Princess WenCheng.
