BUDAPEST, March 7 (AFP) - Gail Devers moved one stepcloser to winning a unique sprint and sprint hurdlesdouble on the final day of the World IndoorChampionships here on Sunday.
The American, who won the 60 metres title on Friday,began her challenge for the 60m hurdles gold medal witha commanding first round victory in 7.88sec.
Devers is bidding to become the first athlete to winboth titles at the same World Indoor Championships. Sheachieved the same double at the US Championships twoweeks ago.
The 37-year-old two-time Olympic champion at the 100mflat faces tough competition from the reigning worldoutdoor sprint hurdles champion, Perdita Felicien ofCanada, who won her first round race in 7.91sec.
The semi-finals and final take place later Sunday.
Maria Mutola will become the first athlete to collectsix World Indoor titles if the Mozambican takes the 800mgold medal later in the day.
