His technique will allow him to run faster eventually… I really do believe that. I agree with your prediction.
I’m curious what Charlie thinks about Craig Pickering.Do you think he has the genetic potential to eventually be a consistant sub 10 sprinter within the next several years? Can he acheive what no white sprinter has ever before and possibly down the road challenge for a medal in the Olympics?I will await your reply.Thanks.
Craig opened his season today in bad conditions on a wet track. He ran a 10.43 which is very average but hopefully he will improve.I would hate to see him start to regress like Nick Smith has.
Another young sprinter from Germany ran a 10.41 in rainy and windy conditions to set a new youth record. His name is Christian Blum.
Bobby Morrow must be in his seventies. I really doubt he has a teenage son.
Craig opened (?) in BUSA the last weekend of April with a similar time (10.41, I think).
From what I hear not good conditions to run in L’boro last weekend though… TC?
Also, glad to see Emily Freeman back after all the problems she had…
Terrible conditions at the Loughborough International. Rain pelting down and block starts in puddles of water. I am surprised they all ran. I can’t draw anything from this except that Tim Abeyie is going to have one hell of a season…
What problems has Emily Freeman had?
The Norwich Union has invited Craig to be a part of the race with Gatlin & Powell.Pickerings Coach has recommended he turn it down.Obviously he would get killed but is he better off getting his feet wet anyway against the co world record holders?I’m curious as to what your guys opinion is.I think he needs to start elevating his competition if he wants to continue to improve.I know he will lose by 5-10 meters but hopefully that will make him hungry and continue to train even harder.
What’s with all the noise over Pickering? His PB is 10.2… is it because he is caucasian & British? The US has a bunch of guys that can run that time. And some are caucasian…
He was even featured on that World’s Fastest Man documentary that had a bunch of olympic & world champions. Then at the end, a spot about Craig Pickering?!?
J-Mee Samuels is the butt of all the current junior talk. Craig Pickering and Harry Aikens (sp) pbs are what? All I know is J-Mee has run 10.08 legal at age 18 (a young 18 at that and it was his senior year in HS when he did this) and has a bunch of slightly wind aided (10.06 @2.1) around there as well. These guys get FUNDING from their gov’ts and J-Mee Samuels did this in high school. It really makes no sense.
First off J-M Samuels is the real deal.If he were over in England, they would be funded him too. They have talent but like most countries,it is not up to the level of the US.Other than maybe Jamaica, what country is?As for the US having a few white 10.2 sprinters?Who would that be.I can only think of one and that is John Biafocosky of Div.III. and no one talks about him.So yes,it is mainly because he is from England but Pickering is that good i.m.o.
John Woods has gone sub 10.2 I believe. Trey Griffin has too, I think (he went 10.2x in high school and took a few years off for football–dumb decision).
John Woods probably did it at the nationals last year.I forgot about him.I believe he did it in the semi-finals or something. He is good but I’m not sure if he has what it takes to go to the next level.I don’t belive he has a sponsor.
Trey Griffin never ran faster than a 10.3 and he went to high school in Texas. He had potential but from what I’ve been told was never offered a track scholarship. He went for the football because he had no choice. The same thing happened with D.Stamer and unfortunately for both of them, they came back to track because they never got a fair shake in football. They both came back too late which is a shame!Stamer was a hell of a running back at junior college but the Huskers never gave him a fair chance. He would tell you that himself!!
Haha yeah Johnny B. was who I had in mind. We ran against him last week. He is damn good! We show up to a nobody meet in Ohio and end up getting him and Leshaunte Edwards in the 100m finals! Quite a surprise. They say he has run a 10.31 into -.8m/s…but I don’t know if that wind is legit. They usually don’t have a wind gauge in Berea.
As an aside, I talked to his coach. Told me something like…
day 1- speed work
day 2- intervals (200s, 250s) at 95% w/ 4-5min rests…then front squats
day 3- power work(starts, plyos, handoffs)
day 4- intervals??
day 5- rest
He counted day 3 as the “easy day” but the only easy day seemed to me to be the day before the meet. His weekly schedule made no sense to me so I can’t remember it exactly. Their kids always make massive improvements somehow. In my opinion, they have the best 4 man sprint crew in d3 (10.27, 10.61, 10.64, 21.5x).
Thats crazy man. I have spoken to alot of coaches/ athletes who use that same type of setup. Read some of the athletes journals on trackshark and you will see. Maybe if I have the time I will post link to ones in particular. Off the top of my head the 2 I can think of is Augustine Shmader from D3 Sprint powerhouse Lincoln University. His journal was on there last year. And Joshawn Abrams. I know there are many others that go hard virtually every day though. Perhaps someone can have a look.
Yea I spoke to Schmader last year. Their setup includes a bunch of highly intensive tempo stuff. He only really started lifting seriously last year cause they finally got a strength coach (one that worked with the track guys). Schmader was just a natural. I remember him talking about how he needed to get a triple jump mark and was like "yea it’s not that hard to jump 48’ ". Lincoln has no one this year though (100,200).
Mt. Union just brings guys out of nowhere. Pierre Garcon ran like 11.2h in high school now he runs 10.61 at Mt. Union. Ridiculous.
European Junior 100m Champion Craig Pickering, pulled out of the 100m final after finishing third in both his heat and semi final suffering from a knee problem.
That sucks about Pickering.Hopefully it was just a minor injury and he will be back sprinting soon. This is suppost to be another breakthrough year for him.
On a side note,Dariusz Kuc of Poland who just turned 20 himself, just recently ran a 10.17 wind legal. That is a very good time.It will be interesting to see how this kid does the rest of the summer as it is very early still.
