Athletics Australia - Coach of Merit Funding

Athletics Australia is seeking applications from suitably qualified coaches for its Coach of Merit Funding Scheme. Coaches can now apply to Athletics Australia for grants of up to AUD$10,000 to assist with travel and accommodation expenses whilst engaged in coaching Australia’s elite athletes.

This program seeks to support volunteer coaches who can clearly demonstrate that they:
· Possess outstanding technical knowledge and can demonstrate the ability to pass it on to their athletes
· Can deliver outstanding results at Olympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games
· Have the capacity and willingness to mentor Australia’s less experienced coaches and
· Support and participate in Athletics Australia’s elite coaching programs

Selection criteria for Coach of Merit Funding

Coaches of Merit Funding will be awarded to coaches who can demonstrate all or most of the following:
(Applicants should address all of the following selection criteria indicating relevant experience, where required:)

  1. Currently coach at least one athlete ranked in the top 10 in the world for his/her event
  2. Has the technical skill to develop an athlete beyond international representation level evidenced by the frequency in which he/she achieves this standard with athletes
  3. Is prepared to share their skills and knowledge with other coaches in the sport
  4. Is committed to work for the benefit of the National Program
  5. Is prepared to mentor developing coaches
  6. Has a squad of athletes that includes junior/developing athletes
  7. Has an open minded, progressive and innovative approach to coaching
  8. Takes a positive approach to their own education and self development by keeping up to date with current trends and practices and/or provides research/discussion papers for the benefit of other coaches
  9. Is based at a club, or provides assistance to coaches at club level
  10. Is prepared to enter a one-year contract to be funded as a Coach of Merit and abide by an agreed Code of Conduct

Note: Coach of Merit funding is not available to coaches who are currently employed full time within the State Institute of Sport/State Academy of Sport network

Applications may only be submitted by the coach applying, ie not on behalf of the coach by any other person.
