Why should he stop eating breakfast and smoothies<
I think breakfast is overrated in this country. My breakfast is usually hot green tea and coconut oil. My wife strength train/cardio early mornings and I usually have her take 200-400mgs of caffeine and about 20gms of bcaa’s - postworkout she has about 40gms of whey protein with warm water… Her first meal is usually somewhere between 10-12. To answer your questions it’s more of a personal thing and something I had success with… If you must have a big breakfast I like to have a egg omelet filled with cheese, spinach, black beans, onions, green onions, with turkey slices.
Smoothies - i would prefer to stick with whole protein at breakfast for a much greater nutritional profile etc. I leave the smoothies for my wife… lol
I came to this same conclusion a while back also. I noticed the less meat I eat, the better I feel. SO I usually cut meat out for breakfast. During the school year ill eat more in the morning, but during the summer breakfast is out the window cause I train first thing in the am. I also do bcaa’s and carbs with caffiene and theanine, plus my favorite ephedra (screw that ban). Ill eat when I finish training, well cause I have to. So right now I do smoothies before work, cause they taste so damn good. Sometimes if I feel like it ill do the omelet with veggies and some turkey. and maybe a waffle. I never eat a huge breakfast.
During the summer Ill wake up at 5take my supplements and hit the track around 6-7. depending on the workout get home between 10-12 and eat. On tempo days ill get home much earlier and then I might have a “cheat breakfast”. I go H.A.M literally! sometimes Ill eat ground stone grits, eggs, sausage, hash browns whatever. But thats only as a reward if the weight is right.
But I do notice that weight drops easier without eating big ass breakfasts everyday.
If I was training early morning for a speed/power athlete - i would take the caffiene+bcaa’s preworkout. 30mins into workout i would eat 1-2 apples or other fruits. For my weight gainers we may have chocolate milk at this point.
My boy does the chocolate milk after workouts. I cant do milk as ill be dropping off packages after. I always have some nuts in my bag if I start to feel the need to eat during a workout. Ill also drink the isopure zero carb rtd pre workout which curbs any hunger. its got 40 grams of pro and 10 grams of bcaa. Ill also have a carb/bcaa drink mixed for intra workout.
3/27 tempo total of 1500 meters on grass. lots of ab work
3/28-
bench, seated row, pull ups pushups
3x30 bs, 200,150
just working on angles out the blocks. the 200 and 150 turned into relaxed resistance with all that damn wind.
5x100 on grass cool down
wed-sunday is gonna be a recovery week. Ill be in Denver with the wife for her presentation. Ill be in the hotel room getting my do nothing on. Ill be riding the hotel bike and hopefully they have an indoor pool I can workout in. lots of ab work and pushups.
Ok thanks, and makes sense. I leave the smoothies to my girl too. lol
Wow, I don’t know how you go without breakfast and train . I am starving by the morning and have 4-5 eggs with tomato and spinach and am hungry 3 hrs later. I train in the afternoon and feel weak if I dont have enough food on board.
Well THe carb and bcaa drink helps with hunger. Also the EC stack. Ill do some nuts also sometimes. Once I start training Im good. Plus I feel nice and light. When I train in the afternoon, I will eat in the morning. either eggs and 2 grain waffles or oatmeal, or a shake. THen I snack on nuts, bars, and fruit for the rest of the day until practice.
But I dont eat on days when I can train first thing in the morning. If I have to work, then Ill eat.
And smoothies are the shit
3/30
flew into denver. got here around 10 am. Ate some fried shrimp then walked it off for a few hours in downtown denver. It wasnt as cold as I thought…not yet atleast.

I’ve cut my meat intake in half as well, and I notice the same thing - feel better and lighter. Now if I could cut my alcohol intake in half.
I used to believe athletes could get away with anything. When I sat and watched Linford Christie grab pastries for his pre meet breakfast I was in disbelief. But there are for sure different rules when you are a competitive, full blown athlete that have nothing to do with post 30 or 35 year old bodies and metabolic rates that are different.
Age is only one part of the equation. I think a person can “get away” with a ton of dietary and lifestyle miss steps if sleep can be indulged. ( Sleep as the primary and king and queen of all regenerative methods). For example. Charlie was in amazing shape when I met him in 1988. He was training with his athletes. After the scandal his sleep became compromised and got worse still when he started training “normal” people before he had more work with the professional teams.
If there is an interruption for people that knocks them off their game… pregnancy, normal aging without awareness, job with long hours and lots of physical labor, some kind of accident, having children or any massive change that prevents you or those you love from a healthful life style… Maintenance is one aspect of wellness. Healing or learning the steps required for healing are difficult and outside of many peoples skill sets.
I am trying to teach my son who just turn 18 to cook. It’ not an easy task when I do all of the cooking and I am pretty good at it or at least I like to think so.
Eating meat became noticeably different for me after I gave birth to James. I pretended for a while that it was not so but when Charlie became sick it was 100percent apparent. He almost could not eat meat of any kind at all.
Alcohol is toxic to the body and if you have a liver or kidney that is not functioning well or efficiently you will have issues outside of the toxic nature of alcohol.
If you saw the Dr. Amen post on my charliefrancis.com page last week the article spoke about toxins in the body could pass the blood brain barrier. Depending on how we are following an 80/20 or 90/10 rule of eating gluten or too many sugars in form of simple or things like alcohol it’s not hard to imagine our food as a drug and how it begins to mess up our brain functions. There is now medical and scientific proof.
To learn more about brain scans and food effecting our mood and performance Dr Amen and his zealot wife Tanya have done amazing work in the areas of brain health. Fascinating.
Read an interesting article some place not long ago about eggs and how amazing they are and how nutritious they are and how you benefit more ( is it true I don’t know ) from eating them sunny side up or not over cooking the yolks.
I’ve just posted one of my favorite new breakfasts on my Facebook page for the site This breakfast is so fast and easy and delicious. The only thing I might do differently which takes more time and experience for most would be to poach eggs.
Poaching eggs requires small amounts of water, deep enough to cook the egg properly for roughly 4.5 min and adding plain white or apple cider vinegar will help keep the egg together. Cleaning pans from poached eggs are annoying but not if you have help in the kitchen LOL. ( use a stainless steal scrubby as they work amazingly well)
I don’t understand. Alcohol consumption works for a bunch of hockey players (or does it?LOL) so why doesn’t it work for track athletes?
North Americans overeat period. That is not to say everyone wants to ingest oil and stimulants to start their day. Wow, I want to date a guy who takes me someplace and says no food tonight baby, here is a bottle of olive oil and a shot of caffeine, now lets go back to my place.
I love eating. I love food. I am about as hard core as it gets when it comes to how I arrange my meals and food and supplement my diet. Good luck with your kids feeding them meals that aren’t appealing and if you do have success I want to hear all about it. The reality is it’s difficult for a lot of peopel to make sense of what is reasonable and the information is confusing about and around food and calories and not eating is one approach for sure. Fasting and intermittent fasting is very good and healthy too but it’s not everyone bag of treats.
No one is saying smoothies are for everyone. I get sick of them for sure but I think the bcaa’s and stimulants is likely going to be a hard sell for many and sustainable maybe but why. To each person his or her own I guess. yummy. NOT.
I usually if I drink liq it will be on sunday or maybe saturday. Its usually once a week or every two weeks. SInce I dont drink so much, i get a buzz easily so I dont need much. I am a beer connoisseur and I like to try various beers. Fruit beers, Chocolate porters, all that. But how much are you drinking and how often?
Yea everyone is definitely different in regards to what they can eat. I stopped eating fast food years ago, minus chick fila, but the last time I ate mcdonalds, it killed my stomach. One day I decided to eat dennys pre meet for breakgfast. I purposely didnt eat much. Apple sausage and pancakes. IT killed me. Had no energy and stomach felt like crap. My boys ate and they were just fine. Now pre meet its only fruit and a protein drink.
