Chambers splits from coach

Chambers spends almost half the year training in the USA
European 100m champion Dwain Chambers has split from his long-term coach Mike McFarlane.

Chambers, who is currently training in San Francisco, is now being coached by Ukrainian Remi Korchemny.

The 70-year-old Korchemny, who has been working with Chambers for eight months, has advised some of the world’s finest sprinters, including former Olympic champion Valeriy Borzov.

McFarlane, the 1982 Commonwealth 200m gold medallist, said: "He’s gone and there’s nothing else to say.

“That’s the option he feels is better for him. I’ve got a family and cannot spend seven months a year in the USA.”

Academy: Dwain’s battle of the mind
Chambers’ agent John Regis said: "It is true they have parted. You have to remember Dwain is not led by just one individual.

"He spends five or six months of each year in the US and therefore thinks it is logical to link up with Remi.

“He is still good friends with Mike, who I know believes Remi has the knowledge which will take Dwain that little bit further.”

Chambers equalled Linford Christie’s European 100m record of 9.87 seconds when second behind world record-holder Tim Montgomery in last year’s IAAF Grand Prix final.
