I just returned from a week of training with Charlie in Toronto, and the experience exceeded my expectations, which were pretty damn high.

If anyone wants to take advantage of this opportunity to train with Charlie, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

For those who are interested in what my experience was about, basically, the training with Charlie was similar to the Jane Project. It was mostly evaluation and trouble shooting. I got a lot of soft tissue work and some acupuncture/muscle stim. I got fitted for custom orthotics by Mike Forgrave to correct my pronation (which was pretty bad). And Charlie revamped my sprinting technique so that I applied force to the ground more efficiently and easily. In essence, the week was spent getting my body in proper condition to train, rather than hard core training. Of course, your needs may be different, but if you’ve been training for any amount of time, there’s probably remedial work that has to be addressed before you can move forward.

Awsome flash!

I gotta get up to Toronto! I know you started out at 12 for the 100 and 25 for the 200. But have you improved any just in that week?

Currently there are 2 tracks you can get involved in.

Athlete or Coach

Both tracks have similar underpinnings (core fundementals) but then branch out into various areas as you progress through the program.

More to follow.

I have sent athletes to charlie myself…all come back excited and better. Charlie is good, no doubt about it.

I don’t have any times from the training. Like I stated, it was more evlauation and tweaking. Besides, we were indoors and only running 60s. However, by Saturday I was having considerably greater difficulty slowing down before I slammed into the wall at the end. The first day I was there, I felt like I was running on a sponge. By the end of the week, my reaction off the ground was significantly improved due to changes in technique and regained elasticity in the tissue due to treatment. And that’s without the orthotics (which I should have delivered by the end of this week).

Interesting. What changes in technique did you make?

Thanks.

Rupert, I sent you a PM, please look out for it.

My PMs and emails have been sent. (whenever you get a chance)

The big one was changing my recovery mechanics. I was over exaggerating the knee lift. The other big one was getting more dorsiflexion in the feet during recovery and touchdown. When I sprint now, it feels like I’m just stamping my feet up and down really quickly; it doesn’t feel like I’m pulling the ankle through high enough, but of course I am. The proper stepping over motion subjectively feels very different than what you’re actually doing. It’s kind of hard to explain in words. That’s why there’s no substitute for proper hands on coaching.

is this workshop based on a certain age group or are all athlets welcome? I myself am a 15 year old highschool hurdler/sprinter who is very interested in this. I also know several other athletes such as myself who show the same amount of interest.
And just how hard is it to get in?

Thanks

What’s the latest on your training, Flash?

Hope it goes well!

I’m still holding together. The adjustment to the orthotics is good so far. But I definitely miss having the pre-workout massages from Charlie. There’s definitely a difference without it. But the key is that running is really enjoyable again and not a source of frustration (and pain).

Based on this, I hope the rest come together soon!

All the best!

Rupert,

I was wondering if you could elaborate on this a little. Do you mean workshops actually in Europe?

Cheers,

TC
